Overall, the experience was positive. The service was fairly lacking, but since it was Valentine's Day and how hectic it was, my guess is that it is a one off. The food was generally good. The tacos were by far the best part of the meal. I do plan to go back to try again.
In my opinion the food was very "European Forward". The salsas were flavorful and rich without the heat. The service was great, our waiter was very attentive. The wine list was stellar. I had two different white wines and I would order them again (both French). Herencia does carry some New Mexican (NM) wines by the bottle, but we were not willing to pay $60-$80/bottle for the local wine. I am sure the price is due to distribution &/or local wineries pricing. I love you NM, but the $$ for the quality of wine produced in NM is not there yet. The chef came out to introduce himself to every table & ask about the food. You can tell he cares about his restaurant. There is a lovely outdoor seating area, and there were propane heaters to keep you warm. My partner and I felt the tables were a little too small and close together. I do wish there was a full bar at this restaurant, but I know the price for a full liquor license is exorbitant. If you are looking for something that uses NM ingredients in a european way this restaurant is for you
The Chefs Table food for Valentines Day was very tasty. The service was a bit slow due to how busy the place was. But I heard the waitress had fainted and was taken away by ambulance, so that explains it
I was super excited to go to Herencia for lunch. I went with a friend and I ordered the Street Quesadillas. They arrive beautifully with an orchid on top. Right connected to the orchid flower was a 3 inch curly hair on top of my Quesadillas. I was so grossed out. Will not be back.
It is always a pleasure to dine at Herencia! Chef Valdovinos and his team provide excellent service and food. The Ceasar Salad is outstanding, and we always find entrees that we want to try! The only problem is we also want to have what we had on our previous visit!
Wonderful food, absolutely new and fresh for Albuquerque. It was a great experience and we will visit again.
Our first visit to Herencia was a real pleasure. The food was great; the wine list it varied; the staff were friendly and efficient. The owner was charming. The only drawn back is the lack of a liquor license but the beer and wine make up for that.
Loved the tacos: pescada and seafood Del Mar. The deconstructed tortilla soup was delicious with plenty of meat. Everyone enjoyed the triangle corn tortillas with the trio of sauces. Creative and tasty! Wish the food had been slightly hotter....nonetheless, it was a five star meal.
Such an exceptional dining experience. The award winning chef visited with each table. He responded to our questions about the meaning of the name of the restaurant and impetus behind his culinary journey. It was a very special story about an exceptional chef. His staff were genuinely so engaging and helpful. We felt like they were invested in giving us a wonderful experience to celebrate my mother's 87th birthday.
attentive service; delicious food. Caesar salad prepared tableside was a highlight. Tenderloin medallions were divine.

The food was very good! It is Mexico style food with a variety of unique meat and fish dishes. I loved that the owner was present, and visited the tables, really nice.
It was our first experience at Herencia. Overall, very good experience. Prices were a bit inflated. They ran out of Lobster early in the evening. Alternate seafood combination, mostly some scallops a few shrimp and shredded crab for Lobster enchiladas. Same price. Great flavors in the plates we had, so we weren't dissatisfied. Around $60/person, but worth a NYE night out. What we expected for a celebratory meal. Will try to go back on a regular night.
Early evening dinner. Not very many people so service felt very personal and attentive. Mia was wonderful.
Every staff member we encountered had a genuine smile, it truly elevated the experience. That kind of warmth is rare and deeply appreciated. The restaurant itself is stunning and intentionally feminine. I loved how the space honors femininity without softening it or apologizing for it. The owner has a mural of his grandmother on one wall and his mother on the other, both woven into florals, which adds a deeply personal and meaningful layer to the design. The food was out of this world, and it's easy to see why they're so highly rated.
I learned of Herencia through the ABQ magazine where it was awarded the best new restaurant. Went there with friends visiting ABQ from NYC. It's great and is a restaurant that everyone should visit. The menu is varied and unique. All of our meal choices were loaded with flavor and well prepared. The service is excellent. Highly recommended!!
