The best of European Hospitality. Jean and Dadou Mayer established HSB to be in the nature of an Alpine ski lodge, and it is wonderful. You are not visitors or guests, you become family. My first visit was when I was 19 years old, and the brothers ran from the kitchen to ski school line up with Ernie Blake (founder of Taos) because they not only ran the hotel, cooked meals, but they were superb ski instructors, too. Jean is the good looking one but Dadou was the wild man on skis. (just teasing them) I returned with my daughter and realized it was on the 50th anniversary of my original visit. Can you believe they did not remember me! Well, I was not so impressive at 19. We enjoyed hot toddies after skiing in a blizzard one day and then stayed for dinner the next. Breast of Canard a'la Orange. Very French. Meals are served family style at long tables, everyone sharing. The Hotel is located at the base of the ski runs, and you literally ski in for lunch and out to the lift for afternoon runs. The ski resort has very modern equipment and changed a lot from the 1960's but it still offers some of the best powder skiing in the world, with runs for all levels of skier, not just the hard core outbacker. I see they closed last year due to pandemic, but they should be re-opening this year. I hope so and I wish the very best for Jean and Dadou, so that many more people can enjoy their hospitality and become a part of the St. Bernard family. A stay there will infect you with their love of the mountains and the activities to do on it year round, plus they feed you really well!!!!

We came to the outdoor deck for aprés after a long day of skiing. I do not recommend it. For $13 you can get a hockey puck of a burger with cold fries with a buffet of condiments you add yourself. Ridiculously priced. The bar is cash only and they do have an ATM inside the main dining room (which is extremely dark and lacking character, surprising for such a nice hotel). The outdoor bar has lots of family style seating and some raised bleacher-style seating to watch skiers come down the final run. The beer options were a little boring, but they do have a full bar. Overall blah experience.

Food was good, however costumer service is terrible! This place lacked hospitality and friendliness, very disappointing.

This was my first trip to the St. Bernard. I was first greeted by the wonderful CHRISTINE. She patiently explained everything and made sure we felt right at home. This continued thruout our stay. Christine made sure that every whim was taken care of. The hotel staff, all around, was pleasant to deal with. The St. Bernard became our home away from home. So many guests have been returning for years. The service, the food, the ski lessons, I can't say enough positive things. I will be returning next year for sure and ski with the new friends I made this year. I was so sad to leave.......on another note- Christine,of course, immediately mentioned my special diet and made sure it was taken care of properly, each and every day. I cannot say enough positive things. See you next year!!

It's a step back in time. It's a place in the history of Taos and skiing! It's not modern it's authentic! It's a jump across the pond to the Alps. Excellent food and atmosphere!?

The most amazing family ski vacation! We just returned from a ski week at the Hotel St Bernard. It was a magical week for us. I highly recommend Taos, the St Bernard, and the Ski Week program. My husband, daughter and I are beginner skiers and by the end of the trip my husband was skiing the blue runs and my daughter and I were gaining confidence on the greens. As part of our ski week package, our lodging, lift tickets and daily lessons were included along with 3 meals a day. These aren't ordinary meals either... Each night, a 3-4 course meal is served family style with incredible presentation. During dinner, children participate in a separate program with activities like sledding, treasure hunts and marshmallow roasts.

Pure and complete magic in the form of a hotel. The St. Bernard is unlike any other hotel in the area, New Mexico, the United States, and quite possibly the world. Each meal is lovingly prepared and served by a staff in a manner that feels like you are family (as cliche as that sounds).

Ski in...ski out. Lunch at the resort with my own homemade soup and a short nap before returning to the slopes.

Well walked into a vibe of entitlement and aloof staff. Sat at the bar ordered a margarita with top shelf tequila ( or their version) watched as the bartender a short blond poured well tequila and when I called her out on it was told "your wrong". I would of left there, as I am a restaurant consultant, but was meeting my family I then tried to engage asking questions and all I got were curt snippy answers as if I was inconveniencing her. However as I watched her interactions with other guests and her co workers I realized it was not me. I moved to a table by the wine bar to wait for my family and a great server came over she had glasses and blond hair wished I could remember her name but anyhow she took the time to tell me a bit about the place and the ski valley itself asked if I needed anything I ordered another margarita. As I waited I thought this place is cool has a good feel but that ambiance was shattered when I heard the two waitresses behind the wine bar complaining about tips and gossiping.. I then got my margarita which was a total short pour full of ice I pointed this out and my server tactfully tried to reconcile the situation but it just came back full of sweet n sour mix, for $14 i would of thought it could of had some tequila in it. Meanwhile the two were behind me chit chatting away, texting, eating all the while my server was delivering food, drinks, clearing ya know her job and assuming others all with a smile. Finally one of the other servers came out went over to a table that was just delivered food and talked at them about herself while it was obvious they wanted to eat then left the table and went back to her buddies and said flirting is the best way to get tips that's how ya do it. I thought you did it how ours did by being genuinely nice and doing her job as well as the rest of her team. The food was good she steered us in the right direction for lunch told us about the dinners, where to go in town and the surrounds all with out being intrusive. If I go back I will check if she is working otherwise we will move on and I will let my friends know. A disappointment but had a nice conversation. Oh and the margaritas thumbs down, too bad because this could be a gem of a place if it had the right staff.

This place is unlike no other! Unforgettable food experience, family friendly atmosphere, and phenomenal ski instructors for all levels (including kids ski school #1 in the country!)

Feels like you have stepped back in time, or maybe a James Bond movie! We had lunch and one of the famous dinners there! The dinner was extraordinary, lobster tails was the star of the show. The service was impeccable and one of the finest meals I've ever had, anywhere. definitely pricey but worth every penny!
