Nice place to sir back, relax, and have some good food. The salsa is picante, so very good. Check out the agua frescas...Sandia, melon, and limonada

Enjoyable roadside haunt. I really enjoyed my Huevos Divorciados at La Patrona. Yes, I know it was lunch, but hey it was super good. I had asked for "Christmas" and got a nice amount of red and green chili on my food. I shared a "steak" taco from one of the family and used a tiny packet of "red sauce" to enhance the flavor. Boy, that red chili sauce was ear steaming hot! The heat didn't mask the flavor of the meat or the avocado in the taco... but I know where they got the inspiration for the steam out of the ears in cartoons now.

One of the most authentic Mexican restaurants I have been to. It made me feel like I was back in Mexico. The food is FANTASTIC!

Love their food. We live in northwest Michigan and stop whenever we're in the area.

I live in Elkhart, IN but when I go to Benton Harbor I have to get tacos from La Perla. Best tacos around !

Looking for Mexican food and got lucky to find this place. First the servings are very generous. Second the food is Spicy and delicious I ordered the asado plate and the meat was tender and mouthwatering. Third the prices were reasonable with outdoor seating. Definitely going back for more.

We didn't really know where to go, having stayed on the outskirts of Carlsbad...We lucked into La Patrona because of the generous opening hours and were wowed! On our first visit I really didn't know what to expect; I knew I wanted tacos and that's about it. I asked "what's barbacoa" lol and the nice kid at the counter patiently tried to explain. Well I got barbacoa and my boyfriend got asada tacos and we were bowled over. We weren't looking for atmosphere or fancy, but the outdoor area was shaded and ample and we had to make a second visit. Even though it was morning (we were on our way to the caverns to score limited entry tickets) we got delicious plates to go. As an added bonus there is a fantastic coffee shop right next to it where we got iced coffee and a frappe.

Pass this place up! The server was anything but helpful in explaining the plates. We purchased the green chili enchiladas because they had meat. There were maybe two pieces in each and it was very hot (we live in NM so we now hot). A tiny bit of beans and a tiny bit of rice comprised the plate. Absolutely not worth it and having a snotty server sealed our opinion. Go to El Charro, the service is friendly and the food so much better!

Stopped at this window service restaurant for lunch during our three-day stay in Carlsbad. Located right on the main highway through town. Knew it must be good because the tractor trailer trucks were pulled over in front. We ordered a chili rellenos and an enchilada plate. Sat at picnic table to eat. Many other customers were getting their orders to go. Delicious & satisfying meal. Authentic, home-cooked style Mexican food. My enchilada had little pieces of potato in the filling. So good.

Stopped after a day of caving and everyone loved their food. Flautas and Barbacoa Tacos were delicious. Building has some parking and a bunch of outside seating. Be prepared to wait 15, 20 mins. It will be worth it!

We were looking for a place for lunch in Carlsbad. We had the worst Mexican Food ever in our lives a couple of days earlier in Carlsbad and were very Leary of eating another meal there. We saw this place and thought it was a Taco truck and said what the heck. It is a taco truck on steroids. It is more like a drive in with covered outdoor seating. We got there about noon and the place immediately got slammed with Hispanic oilfield workers. In fact I think we’re the only gringos there- usually a good sign if you want good Mexican. It was absolutely delightful. It was everything the highly recommended place we had eaten earlier was not. My wife had a flauta plate and I had a plate I had not had before. Both were outstanding. Even the rice and beans were great. Both the red and green hot sauces were great. It is a great little outdoor lunch spot.
