Checked out the Boxcar Cafe as it was close to our Airbnb, we all loved it! The service was wonderful. We had the fish and chips, the build your own burger, chicken fried steak and lastly the chicken tenders and fries. Everything was delicious and everyone was very satisfied!

We had a great lunch. The waitress was friendly and took great care of us. All of our meals were great. Cheeseburger, Mexican Quinoa bowl and fish and chips…
I ordered fish and chips. This is in Chama NM, so, of course, the fish is frozen. But it was good quality and hand battered. The fries were wonderful, hand cut from fresh potatoes and the tartar sauce was home made. It should have been delicious. But, the batter was overly salty ( usually I Love salty) but this was too much. The fish hadn't been seasoned at all but the batter was over salted. The tartar sauce portion was ample. But, it wasn't tart. It wasn't even sweet. Well, it is slightly sweet. But tartar sauce should be Tart! This had little flavor. It was right next door to the hotel where I was staying for 5 days so I really wanted to live this place. But, not only was the food not correctly prepared ( I mean it would have been an easy fix to take this meal from ho hum to really good) it was also fairly pricey. The soda was either a can or a bottle, so no refills, and the price was $3. I do wanted this place to be a hidden gem. Go to the Elkhorn Cafe or the Barbeque food truck instead. They are great.
My wife and I came in from Heron Lake this morning, Sunday October 1st. We go to the lake every year for our anniversary. We decided we wanted to try Chama to find breakfast and coffee today. We were extremely happy to find this place. The all you can eat custom omelette/buffet style setting is genius. We loved the atmosphere the food and service. A non pork meat option for breakfast would be great but not a deal breaker. We will definitely be coming back anytime we're around and definitely next year for our anniversary... Thanks again.

We eat here every time we stay at Coopers El Vado Ranch for fishing. Hours are odd and it gets full in the evening so come early. Food is good and so is the service. We’ll continue to come here. Come try it, you decide.

Lovely cafe in downtown Chama, with a train theme. Food was freshly made, nicely plated and delicious. Had a burger and fries, while my partner had a GF quinoa bowl. Will definitely visit again.

Not impressed. The good - fish and chips were great. Homemade tarter sauce was the best I've ever had.The not so good - service was slow, Had to ask for drink refills each time. Ceasars salad was fresh but not enough dressing and way overpriced for what you get.The bad - desserts. Cheesecake was maybe 1/2 inch thick and pretty much tasteless. Bread pudding was very dry.

We were relieved to find a restaurant that wasn't packed on early Saturday afternoon. Our party had a child under 5 and an infant. Upon seating ourselves we waited about 10 min for menus. It took another 10 min for the young waiter to come and get our drink order. I had to ask if they could make a smaller burger for my 5 year old and I was told 'there's a kids menu for that' I looked on and around my table and saw no kids menu in sight. It that moment the waiter remembered he never offered it to us and went to retrieve it....I also had to ask for a high chair as the young man did not acknowledge I was still holding my baby in my lap.As for the food. It was $48.63 for food that was mediocre. My $16 cheese steak fell apart it was so soggy and the meat has no flavor, where as the fries were over seasoned. And yes I read they are seasoned fries. It would have helped to have a drink refill to go with our meal but none ever came. 3 sandwiches were ordered and no napkins of utensils were offered. We had to ask.Upon checking out I stood in line behind 2 individuals that couldn't stay still as they ordered $60 of food only to tell the young waiter they didn't have enough money. His response was " I'll do you a solid and pay what you have".....They didn't have any money and I had to stand awkwardly waiting, wondering if I will be offered a discount for the poor service. No discount was offered. We are local and this was our experience.

Did have a chance to rate the food because the place was closed when we stopped around 8:15 am today, Sunday July 23. Website says Sunday's hours are 7am to 3pm. Shame on you advertising false hours is also bad customer service. It’s ok to take sundays off but let customers know please.
