This review is of the bar in Foster's Hotel & Bar - I didn't stay in the rooms.
Located right on the main street in Chama, the bar is old school cool with a pool table, a big bar, and lots of space. The selection of beer and liquor is great. The bartender is a friendly old guy who looks like Grizzly Adams if you're old enough to know who Grizzly Adams was. You can take your drink outside on the front deck and watch the trains while you enjoy.
Really enjoyed hanging out at Fosters.
I did not feel welcomed during my visit. It seemed unwelcoming to non-locals. The drinks were overpriced and watered down, which made the experience quite disappointing.
We didn't get a room however the cantina was very lively!
We ordered a burger and fish and chips, 50 minutes no food paid $8 for 2 cokes no tip left hungry & pissed
It's a small town bar, and a good one at that. Make sure to put your phones away and chat with the locals. Phil, the bartender, makes really good drinks.
My wife and I stopped in for a drink while in town for a wedding. The bartender was a nice guy and poured a strong drink. My wife had a spicy jalapeno margarita that she absolutely loved. Very cool atmosphere. The door was open and it was cool outside. Great experience.
Good food, good service!

Stopped in for dinner. Service sucked, food was alright. Not what Fosters used to be which is disappointing.
Dropped in on 4th of July wknd. Lots of people having lunch at Fosters. Glad I stopped in. Had the taco plate & was very satisfied. Loved the old saloon style place. Always wondered what an 1880's saloon n hotel looked like. All I can say is, if these walls could talk?

Great place for authentic New Mexican food. Awesome service. No wait. It was busy at the time so the food took awhile but everything was delicious and big portions.
Food & drinks: Excellent red chile and beans, yummy sopapillas

There is a restaurant too. Ate here after visiting the train station. Had the tacos & tacos/salas. The tacos were okay, the salsa was hot as can be. Maybe it was just that batch that day. The workers were polite & attentive. I recommend this location whether you want a bar, restaurant or hotel.
