I gave it a 3 out of 5 rating because I stopped by on a Tuesday evening - and the restaurant was closed.
The bar was open and they were friendly. It’d be a great authentic western bar to wet your whistle in. But I needed food, the booze would have to wait.

Would not serve my family and friends because we had our kid with us. Uses to be a good restaurant , but this had happened twice

Traveling through and stopped in for lunch, the front door was open but it looked a little dark. Owner or manager finally came in and I asked if they were open. In a very rude angry voice he said “no “! So we abruptly headed out of the door. It could have been handled in a much better way.

The food I got was horrible, the beans was so hard that they wasn't even eatable and the carne adovada I couldn't even get past one bite because of the taste. Took over an hour to get our food. The poor waitress was also busting tables, doing dishes and cash register.I feel bad for out of staters that stop there to eat , that's not a representation of northern new mexico food. There was other complaints at our table of 11 but I know the chili cheese fries was good and chicken fried steak was good according to them . This is my first review I've ever done , I was blown away but I guess I should of checked their review first .

As you can read, don’t waste your time stopping here. I am a designer who was traveling through Chama to showcase in your state, and I always support small-local businesses. This “restaurant” was literally the worse establishment I’ve had to stop at. I WOULD have ordered one of the 5 items on the menu, had the other customers not been incredibly rude and prioritized. I wasted 20 minutes to not even have my order taken.

The most welcoming place of business in Chama. The staff and even the customers are super friendly and inviting. The food is delicious, plentiful and not overpriced. The bar has that old school New Mexico flavor and the hardest working bartenders you will ever find. They are located directly across from the Train Station. Better call ahead if you want to stay in their remodeled but still western, cozy, Hotel.

Ate here on a Friday evening and ordered the chicken enchiladas and they were better than expected and a huge portion too. The beer was cold and a good match with Mexican food. The only negative was lack of wait staff. There was only one waitress working numerous tables. Some of us took it upon ourselves to go to bar to get glasses of water rather than wait. It was not her fault however. There should be more staff especially during peak times like weekends and dinner.

We went for dinner at 6:15 PM. The waitress/bartender took our drink and food order right away. Nothing came for an hour. We noticed locals came in later than us and were served first. We got up to leave and we noticed the locals had already finished eating. Its funny how our food and drinks came shortly after we started to walk out. Would not recommend this place to anyone not local. We spoke to another couple from Texas the following day and they had the same experience.

Arrived in Chama the night before riding the Cumbres & Toltec railroad so needed to get something to eat and drink. As we arrived on a Monday there was nothing open other than Foster's. What a dump this place is. I am amazed it is still in existence. Don't believe the menu on their website. Barely any of that is available anymore and when we asked we were told that they were down to one chef and that is why the menu is restricted but nobody has bothered to update the website. We chose to share the fish and chips but it was dreadful - the fish was tough and old, we even had to ask for silverware and napkins. The shame of this is that this place could be making a fortune off the railroad visitors, but in it's current condition not a chance!

We were looking forward to some delicious northern New Mexican food. My husband ordered a burrito and I got the cheese enchiladas. We eat Mexican food a lot in NM, CO and AZ. This was the worst meal we have ever had. The tortillas were like cardboard, the flavors were bland. We truly could barely eat the food but we were hungry. There was one poor waitress for the entire restaurant on a Friday evening. We waited 20 minutes to get a menu and water. The ambience could have been interesting given that the place has been there since 1881. But out of control children spoiled even that. And on top of that it was expensive! We did tip the waitress well though as she was doing her best and didn't lose her cool with numerous obnoxious patrons.
