This place is one of a kind! The food is authentic & delicious - try the carne (pork) adovada! The chef is open to substitutions, which we were very appreciative of. Our server, Nick, did a fantastic job - very attentive and detail-oriented. Love the little gift shop that’s attached to the restaurant. Bathrooms are clean and well-monitored. The historic photos on the wall add so much to ambiance and are very interesting to look at. Can’t say enough good things about our experience- this place is a gem! This will be a must-stop next time we’re in the area.

awesome, awesome awesome one of the chefs. I am currently working with recommended that I go here. It’s part of his families restaurant. He was working there as an 11-year-old boy back 40 years ago. I drove and drove and drove about an hour and a half going through what seem to be like the middle of nowhere and then in the middle of nowhere was kind of like a diamond in the rough a restaurant with tons of cars people were dressed. Well I felt underdressed. I had no idea I shouldn’t have worn T-shirt shorts and flip-flops lol there was a 45 minute wait and I laughed at that because I hadn’t eaten all day and it was 6 PM but that’s OK. I waited patiently I had to try appetizer, which has cheese sauce, guacamole, and some salsa that wasn’t very hot for dinner. I asked them to bring me something and the lady brought me a great meal and she added some kind of meat. It was so good. I cannot tell you what I was eating, but it was some kind of tamale, some kind of meat and maybe an enchilada with beans and harmony and for dessert. I had her bring me something else which happened to be the flan and that was excellent too.

Rancho de Chimayó is a gem hidden in the heart of Santa Fe. Chimayó, to be precise. Tucked away in the hills, through winding roads, you'll find the atmospheric ranch house. The food is phenomenal and represents everything that one expects when they think of New Mexican cuisine. The nice taste of Pinon coffee. The heat of New Mexican chiles. The hot yet satisfying pillowy taste of a sopapilla drizzled with honey or sauce. All these things bring to mind the taste of New Mexico. The space is large and can sit a good amount of people on its promises. The patio, courtyard, the dining rooms. All nestled into the lovely ranch house. The staff is friendly and inviting. They offer wonderful selections and are sure to give some nice ways to enhance your meals. The mains are everything one expects a place of this caliber to be. Full and hearty. Not skimping on flavor, and just the appropriate amount of heat.Don't forget dessert. They have three homemade desserts, all to die for. The flan, Pinon chocolate mousse, and natilla. All are just a knockout of flavor.A true pleasure to eat here.

Our waitress was phenomenonal.. very nice friendly. The food was amazing, especially the carne asada! My son loves to have the prickly pear lemonade whenever we are here. The sun room is a beautiful place to sit and done. Very close to the santuario and easy drive from Santa Fe. I highly recommend this great restaurant!

We were vacationing in New Mexico going up from Santa Fe for a day trip to Taos. We stopped here while traveling on the high road. I will say, I had high expectations for this restaurant based on the reviews. The atmosphere was great. It was very well decorated, friendly staff, and a unique location. We were told it would be an hour and a half wait but I was determined to stick it out based on the reviews. Somehow, they called our name within 10 minutes…I’m not sure how that was even possible to mix up. But okay sooner is better. Our waiter did the best she could but she had to manage way too many tables, clearly the place was understaffed. The problem was the food which was very mediocre at best. The chicken on my fajitas was very bland and not well seasoned. The tortillas did not taste homemade but something more akin to what you buy in the store. The sopapillas did taste homemade and were quite good. My wife’s tacos were also bland and the taco shells were soggy. Honestly I’ve had better tacos at many other places and most taco trucks for way less than $20. Overall, I would not recommend.

The service was very good and the ambience was excellent as many have described. I visited RDC 40 years ago when it was basically just a small house, and the carne adovada and other food was delicious! The size has grown tremendously since 1984, but the food has suffered some along the way. I was disappointed when I was served carne adovada as a pile of shredded pork coated with a thin orange chile sauce. It tasted ok, but the delicious, beautiful brick red chile coating large chunks of tender pork was gone. In their own RDC cookbook, they have photos of the traditional dish with dark red sauce and recommend to cut the pork in 1-2" cubes. There was nothing in the book about diluting the sauce and shredding the pork. Maybe the current cooks need to read the published cookbook. The rice and posole were passable and the sopapillas were good, although a little chewy. The guacamole appetizer was creamy and delicious. The dessert flan was well done for the thin style made with evaporated milk, but I prefer the creamier version using sweetened condensed milk. The restaurant is so nice, and has been an icon for so long, it is a still a good place to visit.
