This was a fun stop on our way through! We really enjoyed chatting with Eliza, who runs the restaurant with her husband! Super-friendly and welcoming with a southern menu that included many things we just don’t get in Canada. Delicious food! She sent us off in the direction of town for the annual duck race & a couple of slices of southern pie! Such lovely small-town hospitality! So glad we happened upon this little cafe!

Three strikes you’re out ! The picture shows what a $25 Keylime pie should look like. What I got was something that looks like it came from the grocery store. This is a small town. I genuinely want to discover businesses that I have not tried, especially those small businesses run by a family or an entrepreneur.
The pie lady used to have her business downtown. When I asked, She explained that she moved 5 miles out of town so she could better afford to have a restaurant and her pie business.
I went to her place of business and selected a frozen Keylime pie. For me it seemed very expensive, $24. Because I bought it on Wednesday I got a 10% discount. I paid with a credit card that was processed through her phone with some attachment. I only pressed one button which declined leaving a tip, because I don’t tip people for handing me something across the counter. Maybe you do I don’t know 10 minutes later. I get a phone call from her. She had my number because I called her to ask her what kind of pies she had ready to go. This is where it gets weird. She said I seemed like I was in a hurry. Suddenly, I think oh no, I left my credit card. Then she tells me that I hit the wrong button and that she slightly overcharged me for the pie. She told me that I would have to come back by our shop and bring my credit card so that I could be refunded. She definitely acted like it was my fault. I certainly didn’t see a button for extra charge or press the button twice. I was headed out of town with the pie. I told her I would be back later to get the refund. She told me she closed at seven. I started thinking about it and I called her back. I said how much did I get charged extra? It was then she informed me that I was double charged and then I could come and get a refund or pick up another pie. I told her I would be back for the refund. Hours later, I returned with my credit card. She got out her phone and the attachment and showed me that she had gone ahead and made the adjustment and fully refunded my money. So there was no need for me to go out of my way to show up physically with my credit card. She could’ve just called me and I would’ve taken her word or checked my statement. Strike three was when her employee, relative or maybe the cook asked me how the pie was. I told her it was fine. There was an awkward silence from her and then she pushed back “just fine she asked?“ I said yes, it was fine. I think it’s really pushy to ask for a compliment. But I’ll tell you right now. It was nothing about the pie that would lead me to believe that it was handmade. It wasn’t bad. It tasted like Keylime pie, but it was just the graham cracker crust with a mousse like consistency that tasted like Keylime pie. Keylime pie is my favorite and if I pay $25 for a custom handmade pie, it should have some twists of the Keylime peel, maybe a fluted crust. Or some other garnishment. It was nothing special. If she made it with key limes, the peel could be used to garnish. A dab of whipped cream in the middle maybe? Marie Callender‘s Keylime straight from Walmart is a better pie and it’s available for about half or less. I didn’t appreciate being pressed for a fake compliment. I didn’t appreciate having to drive all the way back. And I didn’t appreciate dealing with a merchant that does not have their payment system competent/ together. That’s three strikes you’re out. I hate riding bad reviews of people. But this was ridiculous. I could have overlooked the value of the pie. She could’ve been straight with me about the double charge without trying to blame me for it. Why they didn’t have a regular credit card processor I don’t know. Now I have to check with my credit card company to look for any errors. I hope they get their stuff together. I will not be returning.

I went in and I was the only one there for about 10 minutes. the lady was so kind she told me how to purchase land in deming and what to look for amd how to get a well drilled in the area locally. she gave me a run down of the surrounding areas and the jalapeno corn bread was great. I felt at home and the good was incredible. I met her husband as well. when I get back to deming I will definitely be stopping by. I wish I had got their contact number so I could keep in contact with them both. GREAT EXPERIENCE. I RECOMMEND ANYONE TO STOP BY AND EAT HERE.

What a spot! Mom and pop: Elisa and Curtis. Absolutely great food. Nothing fancy, just good old southern food cooked with love and all that that implies. The physical plant isn't much but it's comfortable and there is even an indoor dog friendly dining area. Elisa and Curtis couldn't be more gracious hosts and the food is delicious.

The menu is is large but everything is cooked to order. It will take a while for the food to appear but it is worth the wait. We had Elisa's meatloaf and the pulled pork. Each plate comes with three sides and a piece of cornbread - regular or jalapeño. We opted for the jalapeño and Mac and cheese, black eyed peas, fried cabbage, fried okra, and coleslaw with walnuts and raisins. The okra was freshly breaded and deep fried; large succulent pieces that put that frozen stuff to shame. Fried cabbage came with tomatoes and an extraordinary flavor; a real winner of a dish. The black eyes and mac and cheese were well cooked but nothing out of the ordinary. The coleslaw was definitely worth repeating. That corn bread? Well, let's just say we took some to go. As far as the pulled pork and meat loaf were concerned: stellar. We took a piece of the 4 pies available ( millionaire, key lime, lemon cream, and pumpkin) to go and have yet to taste; but previous experience says they will be more than good.

Restaurants like this are unfortunately unsung and overshadowed by corporate stores or glitzy places. But for food that is genuinely cooked with expertise and especially love one can't go wrong with Elisa's House of Pies.

Southern cooking and hospitality at its finest in this roadside cafe off NM Hwy 26, just outside of Demming, NM. This is a pet friendly restaurant as long as pets are on leash or in a carrier. Elisa is the most gracious hostess, and Curtis, her husband, the chef. Walking in the door, your mouths will salivate with the savory smells of what's cooking.
We each enjoyed a meal plate that includes 3 sides from an extensive selection and their signature cornbread, plain or jalapeño. Vegetarians and Meat Lover's ( see menu) welcome! At first bite, you will believe you have died and gone to Heaven. Everything was freshly cooked and mouth watering delicious. Needless to say, we ate it all. Be sure to save room for Elisa's homemade pies. We ordered 1 of each of the 4 day's pies: Millionaire, Pumpkin,Lemon Cream, and Key Lime to share with friends tonight. Also, I took some cornbread home for the morning. We visited Eliza's a few years back in their small restaurant downtown Demming. I can see and taste why they outgrew that location. Only here a year, this new location, which is spacious, clean, and decorated with the warm colors of the southwest sunshine. Beautiful artwork, even in the bathroom. Be sure to stop in and bring your friends. This is the culinary jewel in Demming. Enjoy.

We had a delicious meal here yesterday! We chatted with the owner and were very impressed with everything! We drove over from Las Cruces and it was well worth the trip! I am excited for an opportunity to go back and enjoy more!

We went to Elisa's while passing through town and boy were we were pleasantly surprised. Off the beaten path, this hole in the wall restaurant has southern tastes and matching hospitality. The owner Elisa was our waitress and we were met with such a warm welcome. The menu boasts catfish, fried chicken, candied yams and of course delicious pies. I had a smoked chicken sandwich on cibatta, with candied yams and max and cheese. My husband had curtis's special and my husband literally left to crumbs. My mother in law had catfish, red beans and rice and coleslaw. Portions were a good size and you couldn't put a price on scratch made food. And they know how to make true sweet tea. And saving the best for last the pies. We shared 4 pie slices and nothing was left. We had the millionaire, the hatch apple pie, French silk, and coconut. All were fresh and delicious. Hope to return one day soon.

Elisa's was a very pleasant experience today. Classic Southern cooking to be had off I-10 in Deming, NM. Skillet-fried chicken, meatloaf and so much more. A wealth of comfort sides, too - black-eyes peas, real mashed potatoes and more. And homemade pies! We'll be back
