Nailed it! The carne adovada at La Cocina in Española is as good as any that I have had in New Mexico. It is brick red, with a strong chile flavor without bitterness. The pork is very tender without being mushy and full of pork flavor. The was a very mild heat level, and I prefer hotter, although the flavor did not suffer much from the lack of heat. It is served with rice that was wetter than most restaurants, but was acceptable and a good accompaniment to the chile, as were the refried beans and cheddar cheese. The sopapilla was a gigantic triangular pillow, and had a sweet pastry flavor with just the right amount of chew to it. The desserts looked good, but I was too full to eat anything else, so I will save that experience it for next time. Service was great and the restaurant is clean and comfortable with a solid NM vibe.

The last two times I’ve visited La cocina the food was cold. The chili was horrible not up to their standard. I used to think it was the best chili in town but not anymore the red chili is watery and they barely give you any on your plate. Very disappointing, I had a breakfast plate with hashbrowns half for raw bacon, barely cooked eggs, cold, and again the chili was watery and not much of it. ?

The food had no flavor. I got the flautas and they tasted like unseasoned boiled chicken rolled up in stale corn tortillas. They came with two day old dry refried beans and bland Spanish rice, tomato sauce and rice is not Spanish rice. Not worth 15 dollars that’s for sure. No plastic ware or honey for the sopapilla either.

Ordered the Carnita plate Mostly a whole green bell pepper and onion, & coffee, meat was very dry, large pieces of pork. No flavor at all. Coffee was very weak.

Smothered breakfast burritos use to be our favorite but in past few months it's almost all potatoes a crumb of bacon if your lucky didn't see any eggs either I figured months ago they just forgot to put bacon and eggs in it so I have tried it a few more times and including yesterday morning and guess what it was all potatoes mostly and there not so cheap,what happened? Different cook? Different management? Not sure

This place serves some of the best genuine New Mexican food in all of NM. Red and green chile, sopapillas, burritos and some really amazing recipes can be eaten here. Not too hard to find, plenty of parking and great service. If you're passing thru Espanola, you must stop in and eat at La Cocina. I do highly recommend..

Just a very friendly neighborhood restaurant. Everyone is nice to each other and it has a homey atmosphere. My food has always been great and the waitresses are very kind.
