Loved the menu so I called to make a reservation. The owner (I think) left his cell phone # on voice mail so I called. Super nice man. Turns out that the place is still closed. My suggestion: call before making plans. The situation is very fluid.
We selected Badlands Grill based on all the positive reviews. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. My husband had the burger with cheese and chilis. The burger meat was only okay and tasted previously frozen versus fresh. The Chicken Cordon Gallup. The chicken was dry and disappointing. I’m sure there are better choices in town.
We stopped for the night in Gallup en route to Phoenix. Based on other reviews, we decided to have dinner at the Badlands Gill, which was a good choice. The restaurant is a welcome, old-school respite. Although some have commented that the prices are high, we worked around that by sharing a rib-eye; for $8 extra, we both had our own soup or salad and starch. The steak was excellent and perfectly prepared. We also had a very reasonably-priced bottle of wine. Service was first class...
