They only had pork stew and no soup of the day. The hamburger was juicy and delicious but asked for medium and the burger moo'd more than a little.

The house Margarita was weak on alcohol strong on some kind of sweet syrup. Enchiladas were hard, without sauce and tasteless. Was that scoop of red glob on my plate supposed to be rice? Absolutely the worst Food I've had in New Mexico

Great reputation. Cannot imagine how it was earned. My main course, most accurately described as a boiled chicken burrito, was flavorless. Rice, beans, small iceberg lettuce salad similarly cried out for seasoning. House margarita was OK, if uninspired. Fittingly, the best part of the meal was vanilla ice cream for dessert. With tip, we dropped $87. Lesson learned.

The omelet is excellent—highly recommended. The sausage is a bit lacking in flavor, so keep that in mind. The bacon was cooked to a nice, appropriate level.

We stayed at the Historic El Rancho Hotel in Gallop NM and there is a restaurant attached to the hotel, but not related business wise.
Since we were staying at the hotel, for convenience we had three meals there. Afterwards we were thinking one was too many.
For lunch, my wife had French toast. She said it was pretty good. I had their special, Santa Fe Crunch egg salad Sandwich. Cute but bland. Reminded me of elementary school when I'd put my potato chips in my sandwich. In this case it was an unseasoned scrambled egg with Frito corn chips in it.
For dinner my wife chose a Turquoise & Silver Margarita. It had the usual in it, but using Blue Curacao, orange liquor, and lime. Not a good mix so she sent it back and had it replaced with a house margarita. I ordered the three-taco dinner with two beef tacos and one chicken taco The beef tacos were pretty decent, but the chicken was cold and dried out. The rice was dry, and the beans were bland. We had the churros with vanilla ice cream They got that one right.
Breakfast ... service was very slow (as were the other two meals) and the food was nothing to write home about.
The Hotel itself was fun and included a great historic tour. The rooms were nice. Ours had a veranda which was fun when the thunderstorm rolled in. And the bathrooms ... let's just very small.

We ate in the bar, restaurant was unappealing. Avoid the New York steak for $34, it was the worst cut of meat I've had the displeasure to try to eat, small cut and over half was fat & grisel. Bar staff was fantastic, floor service wanted to be somewhere else and the vib rolled off them. Worse, it's the only game in Gallop outside fast food.

Went and shopped the native art store they have and wondered around the property. Seems like it would be a great place to take family.

The El Rancho is a great place to eat and enjoy a drink while taking in the atmosphere of an old Route 66 attraction.

After a 400 mile journey and checking into the hotel, we looked forward to trying a good wholesome Mexican meal to compare as we come from the UK. Ordered 2 starters and 2 mains. Mains came out first, enough time to see my bean burger was a processed ready made burger, not homemade. Less than a minute later the starters came. We complained that all food arrived at same time, the waitress didn’t seem to understand our complaint. She offered to put our main meals under a hot lamp to wait but we refused and returned the mains. Waitress avoided our table after the problem and we only ate one starter as the nachos starter was a pile of wet mush and we didn’t feel comfortable.
Big let down and expensive at $50 for pre-made reheated food. No apology or even offered a free drink at least. Sadly we should have gone to McDonald’s for better food and service.

The food could have used a little bit of salt, after adding salt everything tasted really good. The salsa's where very good. The red a little more spicy than the green but were both tasty... Service was great, atmosphere was amazing and everything the place had to offer was beautiful. Awesome gift shop with suvanieers to take home with you..
