El Sombrero was known for great Mexican food back in the ’90s, but unfortunately, my meal this past Sunday didn’t live up to that reputation. The guacamole was overloaded with red chili flakes and lacked other seasonings. The Hatch chile seemed simply warmed from frozen, without any additional seasoning to bring out its Southwest flavor. The chimichanga’s beef was tough and bland, lacking both flavor and richness. Service was efficient and courteous, and I tipped well since the food quality issues are not the staff’s fault. It’s clear this place once held a higher standard.

Horrible horrible experience! We have not been here for 15 years and it has changed a lot! Service is bad, server was ignoring us waited 35 min for our ticket and also for to go trays, the food is a disgrace, there hamburger steak tasted like it came from a frozen box from Walmart, my family did not finish there plates due to it being over cooked even the tamales, what happened to cooking normal Mexican food? Never again! We will not be returning I don’t know why there was gratuity included when the service was horrible! Paid almost 200$ to get a horrible service! Never again!

I ate here a few months back with a very close friend. Paid for our meals at the front clerk. I left a cash tip for our waiter. Just to find out a few days later, in my bank account that I was charged $10 extra on top of what I swiped my card for. IF YOU CHOOSE TO EAT HERE PAY WITH CASH.

The food was good. I didn't get the man at the registers name but he was very helpful and informative to all my questions. I really appreciated that. I liked the chili.
1st time I tried this place, could not find another Mexican food restaurant open in Gallup on Sunday El sombrero restaurant was very good, I had the chili rellenos with green chili and beans. I also ordered a hamburger patty side which they topped with green chili Very good lunch!
