Will not go back because of today's experience. We placed an order for chicken ahead of time by calling in. When we got there, we ordered drinks. The coffee smelled and tasted burnt. Requested for a fresh cup of coffee, the same coffee was brought out, just reheated. We heard staff arguing about chicken orders. It looked like another customer that came in AFTER us also ordered chicken but received it right away. Other customers that came in after us received their food. About 45mins into waiting, we were told that 2 of the orders were ready but they were waiting on 1 more chicken order. Meanwhile, the customer who ordered her chicken AFTER us was already eating her meal. We left after an hour of waiting for food. We called ahead of time knowing that chicken takes longer to cook. Will not be back because of the prices and service.

Portions have shrunk here. Still the same quality of food. Just a bit less of it. Prices have been adjusted just like everywhere else. But the atmosphere has not changed. It's still a great Mexican restaurant. Just don't plan on going home with leftovers.

The staff was nice and gracious in serving us even though we were arriving 1 hour before closing. The food quality and taste was not good. Them allowing people to walk up to customers trying to eat and solicit us to buy jewelry is another negative of this business.

El Sombrero was known for great Mexican food back in the ’90s, but unfortunately, my meal this past Sunday didn’t live up to that reputation. The guacamole was overloaded with red chili flakes and lacked other seasonings. The Hatch chile seemed simply warmed from frozen, without any additional seasoning to bring out its Southwest flavor. The chimichanga’s beef was tough and bland, lacking both flavor and richness. Service was efficient and courteous, and I tipped well since the food quality issues are not the staff’s fault. It’s clear this place once held a higher standard.
