The only option available when I booked was a “vintage camper” — if navigating the camper area in the dark wasn’t terrifying enough, I walked in on someone else in my accommodations. I was upgraded to a room after what felt like a plot for a horror film. This room had 2 doors: 1 with a deadbolt & another with a ‘dummy deadbolt’ that did not lock. Ojo Caliente Restaurant and Hotel is a unique destination that offers a relaxing getaway amidst its natural mineral springs and gardens. The resort features a variety of pools with different temperatures and landscaping scenes, as well as steam rooms and saunas. The gardens are reminiscent of the New Mexican wilderness, complete with hammocks, fire rings, and trails to explore. The hotel's Pueblo suite is particularly notable, with its king-size bed, large windows, and romantic fireplace. The on-site restaurant is known for its excellent food and service, with dishes like the New York Strip, Bison Short Ribs, and Tamales receiving praise from guests. Recent reviews highlight friendly staff, especially a server who engaged well and knew the menu, including food and wine. Guests enjoyed a few glasses of wine with dishes like tomahawk pick chop served with mashed potatoes and broccolini. However, some visitors found limited choices if staying more than two days and noted that some dishes are better than others. It is recommended to make reservations before arriving. Guests have expressed that the food can be bland or require better preparation, such as cutting up the spinach salad, and noted waiting times for service. Many guests appreciated the tranquil atmosphere, delicious food, and friendly service, though some mentioned that the resort can be pricey, with plates ranging from $20 to $40. There are no options for snacks or simple meals, and food and drink are not allowed in the soaking areas, which can be disappointing. Additionally, some guests observed that others used the pool without proper swimwear, suggesting that requiring swimsuits and swimming caps would help maintain hygiene. Despite these limitations, many visitors report having a wonderful time enjoying the natural surroundings, the pools, and the overall peaceful environment.
