Prairie Star Restaurant & Wine Bar

We had a nice experience there. I had a higher expectation for the food, but overall, it was good. We ordered the fixed menu for two, which included a great soup, a simple salad, and a choice of fish or steak for the main course, followed by a dessert. We both chose the steak, and honestly, if the potatos had not been overly hard and crispy (almost like it had been fried too much) and the steak did not have a slight burnt taste, I would have had no complaints at all. I should also mention that the asparagus was so good! For dessert, we had a chocolate cookie topped with cream, which was absolutely delicious and a very perfectly sized one. The service was truly excellent! not only Raylyn who I loved her smiles and vibe, but all the staff members were very kind, friendly, and welcoming. We initially went there for the unique view, but we ended up enjoying the entire experience

My wife and I have always looked forward to dining at the Prairie Star Restaurant because it holds a very special place in our hearts—we were married here nearly 28 years ago. Unfortunately, our recent experience was extremely disappointing.

We understood that we didn’t have reservations and were perfectly happy to be seated at the bar. However, after being seated, it took an unusually long time before our bartender even came to greet us or take our order.

We started with the bread appetizer, which came with butter and jam, but no utensils. After waiting for quite some time, we ended up using pieces of bread crust to scoop the butter and jam because no knife was provided. Even after ordering a second round of bread later in the evening, we still didn’t receive utensils until I had asked twice.

The wait for our entrees was excessive. It took so long that we ordered another bread appetizer just to hold us over. When our meals finally arrived, they were cold. My wife ordered the goat cheese ravioli, which was sitting in what looked like a thin broth that made the dish very unappetizing. I ordered the bison burger, which was smothered in blue cheese and was overwhelmingly salty. The homemade chips were cold and lacked any crispness.

We also both ordered pilsners that were advertised as being served in chilled glasses. The glasses were not chilled, and the pours appeared noticeably short of what should have been a full serving.

What makes this experience especially disappointing is that this wasn’t an isolated incident. Sadly, our last three visits have all been similar in terms of slow service and declining food quality.

We spent a significant amount of money on this dinner and even left a generous tip despite our disappointment. We wanted this evening to be special, as it has been in years past, but instead we left feeling let down.

We sincerely hope Prairie Star can return to the exceptional level of service and quality that made it such a memorable place for us. Unfortunately, after this visit, we doubt we’ll be returning anytime soon.

Not impressed. First and last time to eat here. Bland.. the veggies were not fresh . The duck was vile. The fillet was ok. Service was average and felt scripted. Got a headache after makes me feel like The food had MSG in it.

My wife and I have been going to the Prairie Star for years. I am now a member at the Santa Ana Golf Club and we go to the restaurant even more often than ever. The food is amazing and Chef Miles always has something different to tantalize your senses.
The wine list will blow your mind for a golf course restaurant with wines from around the world and local also. The have a Chef Miles special every week that is amazing, especially for the price! Appetizer, entre, dessert, and a bottle of wine 🍷 for a very low price for two.

Our first experience at Prairie Star and it was outstanding. We opted for their special pre fixe menu for 2 offered on Wednesday and Thursday which includes choice of appetizer each, entree each, shared dessert, and a bottle of wine. We had a beef and fish entree and both were cooked and spiced perfectly. The wait staff were friendly and prompt. This will be a regular dining spot for us!

We both had the Mahi Mahi. We both thought it was the best prepared we've ever had. We've been dining there since 1998. Chef Miles and the staff are outstanding. Bravo!

We were there for a friend's 75th birthday. Everyone was satisfied with their meal, mine was a little off, too salty. It just feel as high quality as I remember. We had a nice time, but we did notice that the noise level was very noticeable. I could clearly hear the conversation of the tables next to us. We had dinner at Juniper Steakhouse the following night and we all agreed that the ambiance and noise level was much better there. I know that the limited size does limit Prairie Star, but I just don't remember the noise level being that distracting.

The food and service were excellent, featuring a brand new menu that was being served for the very first time. The filet mignon (with puréed sweet potatoes and creamed asparagus) and the Cajun-style mahi-mahi were very flavorful, cooked to our liking, and plated in very appealing and appetizing presentations. We chose a slightly sweet white pinot grigio over a sauvignon blanc to accompany both entrees—a choice that we did not regret. Our bread pudding topped off a very filling meal with subtle semi-sweet, chocolaty notes that enhanced but did not overwhelm our entrees. Another memorable dining experience at one of our favorite local restaurants. Thank you, Prairie Star!

Spending NYE at Prairie star was delightfully pleasant . The food was almost perfect minus mashed potatoes over salted and pheasant wrap a lil dry but flavor and components of the meals were delish . The deserts were exceptional the yellowtail won ton was amazing . Ambiance and service just perfect . Presentation for starters beautiful. Salads a little boring . But overall this is a gem among the city's finest dining ! I am always happy to have a meal here and this is now my 4th time !

Our first time dining experience at Prarie Star with my son and his wife was very good! The hostess was extremely friendly, and the service was friendly, attentive and helpful. The food we ordered was all very good: the Caprese salad was excellent, the special tuna entree, ravioli, and salmon entrees were all very good. We asked for a wine recommendation in our price range, and the wine they recommended was outstanding. The ambiance is a bit like a dark supper club, but in my view that doesn't matter as long as the food is good. I recommend, and hope to return soon.
