Our coffee and tea were excellent and beautiful. Hang out because there are plenty of seats and newspapers and magazines. That’s what the locals do here. It’s a great spot!

Home with a Twist

This was my first visit to this coffee shop traveling from out of state. I love that they sell magazines — like big retailer yet with a quaint vibe— and the coffee itself was very good. The reason I’m giving an average rating is because the customer service fell short of what I expected.

I honestly did not see the sign that magazines must be purchased before taking them to a table. A barista came over and curtly told us we had to pay for them before reading. I understand the policy — but the delivery felt unnecessarily sharp.

When I went to the register to pay and mentioned the interaction, the employee simply said, “what do you want me to say?” instead of offering a simple apology or clarification.

A few minutes later, another employee loudly dumped trash and coffee grounds in the walk area, leaving grounds on the floor. It felt careless and not very hospitable for customers trying to enjoy their coffee.

I really wanted to love this place — it has potential! — but I would encourage the owner to work with their team to consider a warmer tone with guests, and a little more attention to the customer-facing environment. A friendly explanation goes a long way.

Locals coffee shop. Patio is dog friendly.

All baked goods supplied by Tesuque Market. The quality is uneven.
Staff is attentive and helpful.

Plenty of seating indoors and some nice spots to enjoy coffee outdoors. Friendly and courteous staff.

Used to be my favorite coffee shop in the 90s and though physically the place hasn’t changed much since then and still has one of the best guarding patios I would still not go there. The staff are incredibly rude and incompetent. I get it. I’ve worked in the service industry for years and people can be awful but the lady I’ve dealt with multiple times who is a manager takes attitude and incompetence to a level I’ve never truly seen before. if you want good drinks served by people who are actually pleasant and generally nice human beings and don’t hate you or you’re very existence. I would recommend going to the mud hut.. The bookstore next-door is great and the outdoor store called tourist is wonderful and both those are reasons for coming to this part of town but avoid downtown subscription unless you really don’t like yourself..

Perfect spot to grab a cup of coffee or a matcha, sit outside in their serene garden area with a pleasant fountain for ambient noise, and disappear into a good book for a few hours!

We just popped in to see the place as it had been 20 years since we were there almost every day. I was disappointed that they didn't still have the huge amount of newspapers and magazines from around the world like they used to. Probably just a sign of the times in this digital dystopia. Still a cool spot for a good local coffee and cake.

Lively with the usual offerings plus a selection of periodicals for purchase. A bit noisy with obnoxious music tends to make it less comfortable than it should be.

Fun place to gather for coffee, more of a locals hangout instead of the touristy kinda place. 😀

Man oh man, the vanilla lattes were on point. My best friend is obsessed with chocolate croissants, and she said the one she had from here rivals Paris!

Do you enjoy hanging with hostile boomers who'd just as soon see you dead? Then pull up a chair.

Downtown Subscription eclipsed even my high expectations. With a well-stocked bookstore next door, an airy interior, and a huge garden/patio, your brews and pastries go down easy. DS supports newspapers and magazines by selling them along with your meal. Try the granola: nutty and rich!

Great atmosphere. Burned coffee. Servers were too engrossed in their own conversations to greet or thank us.
