Oh no, what have you done with Maria's?!? I remember this place fondly from years of dining here while traveling to and through New Mexico. I was so excited to share this place with my family. I should have known something was up when there were empty tables on a Saturday night at 7:30. Every time I came here in the past there was a lengthy wait. So that was a red flag right there.

The menu is a bit smaller than I remembered, but the same items I used to order were still on offer. The menu also looked familiar, so it may still be the same. The atmosphere remains amazing, and we had great service. Here's the thing though. The food was mediocre. Completely changed from the past. We ordered the chile relleno plate, blue corn enchiladas, and a couple of children's entrees. The children were pleased with their food (which was standard children's menu stuff). Our entrees, however, were pretty dang bad. Even the rice and beans weren't good. I got a prickly pear margarita and was disappointed with it, but this could be because I had a fantastic one the evening prior at another establishment.

Later on I did some investigating and learned this place has changed ownership and the quality has really decreased in the past few years. Apparently a woman was severely injured in their parking lot, and the resulting legal entanglements caused stress on what could have otherwise been a successful handover. It's hard to blame them, given this news, but the fact remains that the food was really not good.

Came in after an 8hr drive, stood at front entrance waiting to be seated, as per the sign. Of course there's no host(ess). Several employees were in the adjacent larger dining area and I asked then if I had to wait to be seated or if I could seat myself, all three just stared at me. I asked again, they just went back to talking amongst themselves. Terrible. Would not recommend.

You can definitely tell the food is freshly made. The combination plate I had was amazing. The Sopapillas are amazing! The service is great!

Maria's has become my new #1 favorite for chile rellanos. I've driven to Santa Fe every year, sometimes twice a year, for chile rellanos at Tomasitas but missed last year. This year something changed there, and I was very disappointed in their green chile. Maria's was consistent in flavor, texture and heat. So much better. I even ordered three frozen Chile rellanos meals to take back with me 5 hrs in our cooler. Of course Maria's margaritas menu is the best.

I haven't been to Maria's in years and it's as scrumptious as I remember. I had the blue corn enchiladas. Was divine! Yummy
