The bartender said I could not sit at at the bar because it was reserved for industry people and people they know..it was totally empty. I came back later and the bartender said bar seating was for industry people, or people that had made a “good impression “ in the past..don’t waste your time. The bartenders and the staff in this place suck

The best cocktail bar in Santa Fe. Service and craft were both excellent.

We’ve stopped in at Tonic each night of our four-night stay in Santa Fe, and I’ll miss it when we leave. After having received outstanding service from the bar owner and his staff, who not only are extremely knowledgeable and talented mixologists but also came to welcome us as regulars, we made a point to come back each night. Ignore the 1-star haters: don’t miss this Plaza gem.

As far as I’m concerned, this is the best bar in the country. I’ve only ever been two other bars outside of the country, so to me I could technically consider it the best bar on the planet.

Everybody working there is always amazing. The prices are extremely reasonable, I’ve spent double the price at fancy bars in manhattan and been given drinks 1/10th of that at Tonic. Always extremely creative and exciting. Every time I’m Santa Fe if I have a chance to go I do, several times.

First timer as my wife and i celebrated our anniversary. Each had a cocktail and enjoyed the cool vibes of the place. Saw a unique drink made for the table next to us and asked our bartender the story behind it. Turns out our bartender was in fact the owner and gave us the great history of the martini in a New Mexico wine carafe. Would definitely recommend for great drinks Ava cool atmosphere.

I really enjoy Tonic every time we go. The cocktails are great and the ambiance is fantastic. I love that it is close to everything on the plaza but still feels a little hidden. Great spot for a quick date.

The atmosphere at Tonic was amazing, as was all of the staff! Their drinks were magical, and had us wondering if they were enchanted, as they left us feeling as if we were under a spell. Highly recommend this place, you won’t regret visiting.

My husband and I come here regularly. It’s a fantastic place to have amazing curated cocktails or your favorite standard cocktail. Great ambiance and super knowledgeable and personable expert bartenders. Keep your parties to 4 people or less. It keeps the mood and ambiance as intended. If you have a larger party there are lots of other choices to gather nearby. But this place caters to intimate and expert drinks. And it’s what the customers prefer as well. Come check them out! You won’t be disappointed. And ask for their small bites menu. Some delicious accompaniments to your expertly crafted drinks.

We visited a year ago and I accidentally posted this review against another place... Cool place with interesting and tasty drinks that could potentially empty your wallet. Very loud/noisy environment. We were served by a wild haired pirate-like fella who did a fantastic job juggling priorities in a chaotic environment.

Tonic seems to suffer from a bit of an identity crisis. Unfortunately, the negatives currently outweigh the positives.

First of all, it’s billed as a live jazz bar but it’s completely without live jazz. I’m a full-time professional musician flown in to sing in Santa Fe every summer; I know COVID performance cancellations are a thing of the past. Yet, COVID’s the first reason given for a lack of live shows. Weird. Secondary reasons included that the bands drank too much. Ha!

Even so, good recorded jazz was played at an optimal (low) level, so reading my book was a piece of cake and I didn’t need earplugs.

As a middle-aged itinerant professional musician whose dad’s a renowned jazz drummer, I enjoy visiting and feel very comfortable in jazz-centered haunts, connecting with fellow jazz lovers. Unfortunately, at Tonic, I was denied that experience because you can only sit at the bar if you’re a friend of the owner!

What a weird place!

It feels like it’s run by a crypto-rich jazz fan who’s enacting bizarre rules instead of actually learning how to manage a bar.

Drinks were fine, even if they were tourist city pricey.

I’m conflicted about whether or not I’ll return. The elements that are good are great: pretty room, well-stocked bar, comfortable ambience, and knowledgeable service. But, and it’s a big but, being treated like I have to prove I’m not a problem before being able to sit at the bar is an insult.

Yeah, I probably won’t be back.
