Big Spruce tends towards being a new world hop forward brewery with lots of well crafted IPAs, including various sub styles like NEIPA. They also have choices for malt-heads like myself that want minimal hops, though not as many. My favs today were the Cereal Killer Stout and the Festbier. They also have aged stouts in bottles for sale - I grabbed one of each. Staff is friendly. Live music was great. Lots more beer choices to take away. Also note that they are very dog friendly.
The food truck is not as good but certainly passable. I am not rating it here.
Wow, what a spot. Fair enough, i've been looking forward to visiting for a while having followed on Instagram and loving the beer already. Was amazing food, great setting and views and Robin Carrigan playing live and she was brilliant. Parents visiting from Ireland were dead impressed.
One of our top 2 breweries in North America and we’ve visited a lot! Beers are the best! Amazing selection in styles so there’s something for everyone. Awesome merch store too! The owner personally made us feel welcomed and helped us find a spot inside by the live music. Such an amazing, relaxed atmosphere! We went twice in the 5 days of our visit to the area because we loved it so much! The food truck onsite is a mind blowing bonus. These people have it figured out!
Beautiful location with view of the Bras d’Or Lake. Great store, taproom, and sitting room all made from wood. Food truck makes delicious smash burgers and has a dedicated fryer for gluten-free fries!
Brews and top-notch and staff go above and beyond.
Gorgeous property and great atmosphere!! We are so glad we stopped. There was live music playing and yard games.
I've been a fan of Big Spruce awesome beer for years but this was my first visit. What a beautiful spot they've made. Gorgeous view. The smell of wood smoke from fire pits. Lots of seating, especially outside. A food truck making tasty food. A bar. A well stocked shop with beer to go and fun merch. Just a really nice and well thought out space. If you like great beer (a very wide variety, well made, delicious) and are visiting Cape Breton, it's a must. Also located near the entrance/exit to the Cabot Trail, so you can stop on your way in or out. Cheers!
Loved Big Spruce Brewing so much we had to stop back again on our way back through! Great variety of excellent beers, great atmosphere and staff and great food truck!! Definite must visit if you are on your way to the Cabot Trail or heading to the Ferry.
Wow! Tried a flight, plus we had a group tasting of three other beers. All were excellent! Had the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich from Rose's and it was one of the best I have ever had.

Disappointed, we went this morning at 10.30 a.m. I asked to buy 6 beers to bring, I was told that it opens at 11 a.m. but I can't wait, too bad I won't come back here. First unfriendly character since our arrival.
Delicious beers and amazing staff! The views are pretty great too! . Absolutely recommend making the stop.
Great atmosphere, lots of options for someone who doesn't enjoy beer as much
