“A couple weeks ago we stopped in Baddeck on our way back to Sydney and had a dinner at the freight shed, it had been a couple years since our last visit, and we thought we’d give it a try. It was a lovely meal and we left very impressed. Today we were again driving back to Sydney and because my mother and aunt were visiting from away, we thought we’d stop for a nice meal. I can’t express how disappointed we were with our experience today. We started with muscles for the table, I had left to wash my hands and saw our mussels sitting on the service counter for delivery, and yet it took another 5 minutes after getting back to our table for them to be brought by the waiter. I know this because you have an open kitchen and I like watching food prep and service as I once worked at a restaurant myself. Understandably, when they were brought to our table, they were cold - the waiter brought them back to the kitchen where I watched them reheat them, overcooking the ones that were actually edible. Once we started eating them, at least a dozen were either cracked or not fully open, and as frequent mussel cookers ourselves, we know this means they are not safe to eat. The waiter apologized and took them from us. My aunt’s lobster roll came with hardly enough lobster to justify the price, my son’s fish tacos couldn’t have had more than 4 oz of fish between all three tacos and my mother’s halibut tasted awful - all you could taste was the bland egg wash - it was more like eating an omelette, unfortunately she did not enjoy any part of her meal. I lost my appetite so I took my Caesar salad to go. Sadly we all agreed that the best part of the meal actually was the Caesar salad. I wouldn’t have reached out to you after all of this, but tonight, while my daughter was eating my salad, she pulled a 2 inch black hair out of her salad. I’m sure you can appreciate your reputation for being an outstanding restaurant, and perhaps today was an off day for the kitchen, I would understand if it was a particularly busy day, we were there after 1pm, and there were plenty of empty tables, so I don’t think that can be used an a reason for this subpar experience. Thank you for listening.“
“My husband and I were recommended Bitehouse to cater our small wedding in Cape Breton and it was everything we could have hoped for. Bryan was extremely responsive through the wedding planning and helped us design a 4-course menu while being extremely flexible with our guests who had dietary restrictions. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. It was not only the best wedding meal that we'd had, but was really fine dining quality. Bryan and his whole team went above and beyond during the wedding to make sure everyone was well taken care of and we couldn't have imagined our wedding without them. Couldn't recommend Bitehouse enough!“

“Honestly everything from start to finish was fantastic. The staff were all so friendly and inviting and came with small town charm. The care into everything blew us away and the food was incredible. The smoked Scallops were the best way I've ever had them cooked and the tomato soup as well as the Snow Crab Cakes just delightful and full of flavors. The tenderloin was our main and it was an incredible piece of meat. The roasted vegetables were a perfect pair along with the thin sliced potatoes. NOW my favorite part dessert. I had the Winter In Baddeck dessert and I can honestly say I've never had Maple taste so delicious. The homemade Maple Ice cream was light and not too Maple forward and went perfect with the toasted Meringue I could eat every night. I would suggest this to anyone who finds themselves on Cape Breton Island to take the time drive to Baddeck stay and eat here.“
