Rose and her sons and employees go above and beyond to make your stay in Baddeck and your travels on the Cabot Trail a very memorable and friendly experience. From home cooked breakfast, complete with in house roasted coffee and home-made bread and sweets, to boxed picnic lunches you can take on the trail, they truly are the epitome of East Coast Friendliness. Highly recommend!

Myself , my wife and our Sheltie ( Oaklee ) stopped by on the cafe’s last official day of the season and I have to tell you .. the food , the service and the world renowned Cape Breton hospitality did not disappoint!!!
The house brewed ice tea was amazing , the apple turnover was next level best ever !!, the bumbleberry was utter worldly !!.. and the chocolate peanut butter oat cakes !!!!!!!…. I should have bought 10 packs !!!!!…. Welcoming and supper friendly !!!…. Only drawback is …. I have to wait till the spring to return !..
Can’t wait to come back to beautiful Baddeck and our friends at the Highwheeler !

The best hot chocolate ever! Balanced sweetness and creamy foam made it the perfect drink on the way from the highlands.

Amazing bagel!!! (All the food, actually.)
I hear sesame bagel and cringe, BUT, this bagel was the perfect combo of substance, fluff, and crunch, with a delicious taste, and the sesame seeds are not overwhelming!!! I will tie this bagel with my favourite nyc bohemouth (but they are very different styles!!). I asked about the bagel, and it turns out they make it in-house!

The latte was also well-balanced (please dont judge my preference for iced, but had I known they roast their own beans in advance, I would have gotten the pure stuff). My family got the turkey sandwich, a bagel with schmier, and carrot cake, and loved it all.

We did come in as part of a tour. The cafe handled us efficiently and kindly, but also balanced their regular customer balance. It was a brief but very pleasant stop. Highly recommend.

Amazing spot in Baddeck for breakfast and lunch. My latte tasted divine! The Cuban sandwich I had was toasted to perfection with the golden crisp, it was fresh and juicy (I’m salivating just thinking about it!). Their scones and pies are home-made with that “just out of the oven” feel. The service is quick and caring, and the ambiance is cozy - like you’re visiting friends.

The Highwheeler Café in Baddeck is a true hidden gem! The staff were so warm and welcoming — genuinely friendly and eager to serve. You can feel the pride they take in every dish.

The seafood chowder was outstanding — creamy, flavorful, and packed with mussels, haddock, salmon, clams, and more. The cheddar cheese biscuit alongside it was perfectly flaky and comforting.

And don’t skip dessert! The pie had a buttery, homemade crust and the carrot cake was moist, perfectly spiced, and topped with rich cream-cheese frosting.

A must-visit in Cape Breton for anyone who loves great food, friendly people, and genuine local charm.

If you want to mope alone with your coffee, there's a drive-through at Tim's down the road. This place is fun, friendly, and welcoming, as well as serving excellent food. It rocked during Celtic Colours! The sandwiches are yummy, as well as enormous (really helpful if driving the Cabot Trail or the trip back across the border takes longer than hoped). I came for the food, and returned for the atmosphere.
*Hey to the motorcycle racer/mechanic and good-natured temp.

We visited this super cafe every day whilst staying in Baddeck. The staff were friendly, enthusiastic and really welcoming. It’s not hard to see why it was so busy each time we were there: great food, great service and great ambience. Not to be missed!

Love the Highwheeler! We go for breakfast whenever we’re in Baddeck. I don’t eat sweets but hubby loves their bumbleberry crumble and the strawberry rhubarb crisp, and I love the cooked breakfasts. Even when there are lines during peak times, the staff remain friendly and welcoming and the cooks fill orders quickly. The table numbering system is very fair and works well. Great atmosphere, friendly people, and delicious food—a trifecta!

This is the neighborhood spot where one hears the unique accent, the quips, and pastry orders served quickly by smiling, friendly owners. The clam chowder is excellent. They will make sack lunches for you to take on your trip around Cap Breton or suggest day trips.
