Impressive service and food. Scallop sushi is our new favourite:). You receive a better service than any other Japanese restaurants here. I wish that they had homemade croquettes too. The desserts are awesome. Will definitely go back.

My daughter and I went to Umai today, at Saturday lunch hour. It was quiet as we had the restaurant to ourselves. Our server, Kim was excellent. Kim was polite, knowledgeable about the dishes and made suggestions to customize our dishes.
We eat sushi about 2-3 times per week and have our usual restaurants as well as have eaten Sushi all over Canada and other countries. Umai just became one of our top favourites. The ingredients were all fresh and a wide selection of choices as well as intriguing flavour combinations were the headliners.
Finally, the friendly, attentive staff were contributing factors to make this an outstanding choice for excellent Japanese cuisine. I know we’ll be back. Thank you Umai.

If you love sushi and sashimi, skipping this place in Halifax would be a mistake. it’s hands down one of the best sushi spots in town. Every roll and piece of sushi tastes incredible, crafted with so much care and attention to detail. The quality is top-tier, and you can really taste it.
Portions are bit small but totally worth the price. If you’re a foodie in Halifax, this spot is an absolute must-visit!
We were passing through the area and did a Google search for the best sushi in the Bedford-Halifax area, the reviews were very positive and the choices seemed good, our result 10/10! Food and service very satisfied!

We went there on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Place wasn't very busy, so we didn't wait for a table, and food was served fairly fast!
We ordered Sakedon, Gyoza, one Toro nigiri special, and a Blue Mountain Roll. Everything was delicious. Portions, flavours and texture were great not to mention that their plating was very impressive and authentic. Price for us (2 adults, and one kid) was $72 after taxes. Dunno, what mayority of people except to pay at a Japanese restaurant but to me it was definitely worth it!
Umai's interior deco is very minimal and very pleasing. A few lovely pictures and that's it. Beautiful!
Their washroom was extremely clean (some people might not care about this but to me cleanliness in a washroom says a lot about the place). Anyway, not only was it super clean it was very also nicely decorated. Only thing it needs it's a diaper changer (Mom here).
Atmosphere was also good. It's a very nice spot for couples, for families, friends, and any type of reunions. It's on a plaza so, parking it's easy and it's also wheelchair accessible!
Service was great. Server asked us about any allergies after ordering and was always very attentive.
Don't have that many photos cuz I was paying more attention to my crazy baby, lol. But I can't wait to go back again and hopefully will remember to take more then.
Thanks to all the staff. Please keep doing what you're doing ❤️

On previous solo visits, I went with a starter plus the omakase nigiri. This time I went with an old Navy buddy and we shared the tako yaki starter (my current go to and invariably delicious) and three rolls (Butterfly, Ohana & Mayo Sake). Everything was quite superb. Well prepared, superbly presented and fantastic flavours. Quite faultless and, dare I say it, possibly the best sushi I have ever had and that includes in Japan. Fresh ingredients, very respectable size and a visual treat. Together with a 7oz sake, my share of the bill was $33, which isn't at all bad. The space is very plain, but if you're there for the food, it fully deserves its fifth star. A word to for our delightful server, who's good cheer always makes you feel welcome. Very highly recommended.

We love the food there! They have a good selection of vegetarian sushi, which is a rare find. We ordered the futo maki (best one I had in Halifax), takoyaki (fresh with generous toppings), sumo roll lunch menu (big portion, the salad dressing reminds me of home), sweet pepper roll, and vegetarian bakudan maki (my friend ordered the last 2 and said they were exceptionally good). The place is really clean and the service is prompt. Will definitely return.
