Overall the food was ok, the service, while pleasant was slow despite the place being on the empty side. We started with the chef’s breadboard, then we shared the Wedge Cobb Salad and the House-made gnocchi. The bread was good, but the mains left a bit to be desired. Both dishes were on the smaller side, given the price, especially the gnocchi with an addition cost for the chicken came to $38. The Wedge Cobb had ice cold lettuce and (refrigerated?) grape tomatoes, the chicken and smoked pork shoulder were barely warm, I think they forgot the avo altogether and the dressing was too thin and lacked in seasoning. The gnocchi dish was a bit better, the gnocchi had a very nice texture and it was great to see they used local ricotta from Roma Cheese. However, the dish was just barely warm and again lacking in flavour.

We dropped in without a reservation and were able to be accommodated at the bar (they were fully booked so we were thankful they were able to seat us!). The service was amazing and the food was exceptional. The bartender recommend great drinks and we had some great conversation without it feeling intrusive. The food was fantastic, the Lobster pappardelle was so good I still think about it! We had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert and it was super tasty, they even put a candle in it since we were celebrating our honeymoon which was such a lovely touch.

I went here for lunch and I was not disappointed! I got a lobster roll with potatoes and it was sooo delicious. The server was very friendly and she did a fantastic job working all 10 tables. Love all the beautiful plants as well. I will definitely be back to try supper and brunch.

We were there for the first time just before Christmas, enjoyed excellent food and service. Highly recommend if you find yourself in the valley!

Off the beaten path but well worth the trip. This was my first time ( a birthday treat from my wife) but will not be my last, my wife has been 4-5 times and has not been disappointed. A warm welcome when we entered and seated. The service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere is rustic and enjoyable. i had a lobster bennie that was to die, and my wife had smoked salmon, which she loved - both tasty and well-presented . What was really nice, one of the chefs came out to chat and then Claire ( the owner) came and sat with us for about 15 mins. They discussed some future projects and I certainly wish them well.

What a great experience! The service was warm and friendly and the food was amazing. Even the coffee was wonderful. We made a reservation for 4 at 12 on a Sunday. We tried the Wedge Cobb Salad, the French toast special, and the haddock cakes with white beans and poached egg. Everything was beautifully plated and delicious. Our server was attentive, helpful and absolutely sweet. We definitely will be returning and will be recommending Dickie Baxter’s to others.

I love Dickie-Baxter. The chefs have created a totally fun menu and my steak nachos were so stellar. I have heard the menu has changed and now we have curried chicken nachos. How cool is that! If you are up from the city I really recommend you come to Canning.

My husband and I came for our anniversary and shared the Bulgagi Beef nachos and the burger. Both were excellent, as were the wine (Malbec) and beer (apricot). Katrina our waitress gave fabulous service. 10/10 recommend!Parking: Lots of parking in the back of the restaurant.

MORE THAN THE SUM OF ITS PARTS…The OWNER: Lovely, cheeky, British and always seemingly mid-chortle.CHEF WAYNE: Well travelled with personality +. He masters every dish of the freshest locally sourced ingredients delicately prepared with international inspirations and trade kitchen secrets. Two words: BACON RELISH!!!The MENU: An endless variety of curiously exciting specials. Anticipation is palpable as we wait for our meals. Our patience well rewarded. The STAFF: They provide the living fibre of Dickie with energy, humour and relaxed personal attention at the table. Tables full, we felt like the only ones there. The AMBIANCE: Unassuming, comfortable, unapologetically local and lively in its heritage building (beautifully restored) given new life and purpose.SEATING: Either the outdoor patio with umbrellas and a sweeping local view or the open, airy inside with a a handful of tables and an intimate bar serve as the perfect backdrop for your repast. The Dickie Baxter experience is all the right ingredients, expertly “restauranted” to perfection.
