I used to Love this place. We drove to sea shanty from an hour away and it was not open. Why did you let us book a reservation... if it wasn't open anymore.
Unfortunately, despite our OpenTable reservation, when we arrived (on time) the restaurant was closed. Completely shuttered with no note at the entrance to offer an explanation. It was, needless to say, disappointing. Especially due to the fact that we have enjoyed a delicious meal in a lovely setting at the Seaside Shanty in the past.
Travelled from Halifax to Chester (Nova Scotia) in search of Lobster Rolls 🦞 This area is known as Canada’s Lobster Capital. We both ordered the Lobster Rolls. Just delicious!!

Excellent meal at the Seaside Shanty, great service, wonderful atmosphere. Absolutely gorgeous day for sitting out on the patio right on the water's edge. My husband enjoyed the seafood chowder & buttermilk biscuit while I devoured the lobster roll. I did share some fries with him. Staff were super-friendly and quick to answer questions about the menu. Sad that it took us until the end of the season to get here (they close on Saturday until May), hopefully we'll get here earlier & more often next year!
Our favourite place in Chester to fine. Food, view, ambiance, service is top rate. Staff are very efficient and accommodating.
The service was great and food was delicious. The ambience was nice. Would have liked to see some sort dessert menu.
We had lunch on the patio on a beautiful sunny day in early autumn. One of our party had broken a leg and we easily got him in his wheelchair from our vehicle to the table. The view was spectacular with sunlight glinting on the water and autumn leaves starting to turn. The drinks (Nine Locks IPA, lemonade, cider) were great, the lobster rolls and chowder excellent, and the desserts fabulous. Service was friendly and easygoing. I wasn't footing the bill so I won't comment on price, but it was a perfect celebratory luncheon on a perfect day and we all left very satisfied and happy.
Excellent food and service with an amazing view of Chester Basin from the patio. We had a 6.30pm reservation and watched the sun set over the water. This is a unique restaurant, such as pity that it is seasonal...
Went for dinner, On recommendations from some locals. Very nice interior good atmosphere. Food was very good. My wife and I were full but I'm sure some people would like a little larger portion. I would go again but it was our last day.

Unfortunately batter on fish and chips was raw. We were a party of 4 and two of us ordered the fish and chips and the two of us were very dissapointed with the meal. Both meals had the same issue with the batter being raw and not fully fried. My expectation was way higher specially when dealing with seafood. Ceviche was ok and Tuna was very good. Dessert flour less chocolate cake was very good.
Staff was excellent and friendly. Atmosphere with the Celtic music was a nice touch.

Beautiful location overlooking the ocean, super friendly staff who do everything they can to make your dining experience enjoyable! Perfect portion sizes and food tastes great!
The tagliatelle was perfectly cooked al dente & the presentation was beautiful. The shrimps & mussels were as expected, but the scallops were over cooked, tough & dry. The seafood risotto was bland, but looked lovely. The biscuit with the chowder & with the strawberry shortcake was tough. The atmosphere is totally charming & the Celtic musicians kept it to a level that allowed conversation to continue. They were very good & helped tone down the overall din that we have experienced on other occasions. Servers were lovely.
Raw tuna appetizer was wonderful. Very good. Halibut ceviche was so-so. Too chopped up...felt mushy. Both my and another guest's fish and chips were not so great. The batter was gluey and undercooked but the haddock was fine. Hotter oil perhaps? Risotto was good as was the lobster roll. Chocolate cake was rich and decadent and right portion size. Strawberry shortcake was soggy. So only so-so experience this time, food-wise.
My wife & I ate here for the very first time this summer while visiting Chester and the atmosphere is incredibly cozy with a beautiful view of the harbor! The staff is super friendly and the food was perfect! My wife is celiac and finding a fish/chip spot that is GF is hard without the risk of cross-contamination. Will be back again!
