Food was expensive for the quality. The calamari was extremely chewy and lacked flavour. The beet salad had hardly any beets.

Had a fantastic lunch at the Seaside Shanty! The decor is charming, the view is beautiful, and the food is absolutely delicious. Staff is friendly. I enjoyed the best cheesecake I’ve ever had! I’ll definitely be back next time I’m near Oak Island.

We stopped in specifically for the ceviche, which was listed on the website, but unfortunately the in-restaurant menu had been changed to a new season before our visit. Despite this intial disappointment, everything we tried was delicious. There are several gluten free options, however they were not marked on the menu.

The service was a bit disappointing though. Only one waiter was serving the entire restaurant so naturally, we had quite a long wait.

Sit on the patio if you can! The place was absolutely slammed when we were there (5:30ish on a Saturday) and there was only one poor server working. Turns out it was only her fourth shift (!) but she handled everything beautifully. Bit of a wait, but totally understandable considering how many tables she was juggling. Food was fantastic, view was lovely. Highly recommend making a stop here!

I was wandering. I put my finger on Google Maps and went to Chester Basin. Once in Chester Basin, I Googled seafood restaurants by me and found the Seaside Shanty.
A nice clean restaurant with friendly staff. I had 6 oysters and a bowl of the best Seafood Chowder I've eaten on this trip. (And that's no lie) Overflowing with seafood and cooked perfectly. It came with a biscuit and some local maple syrup, which was also great.
Try this place. You won't be sorry!

The Lobster Roll and Fries were amazing. The service was great and our food came out in a timely manner. The view from the deck is stunning!

We've been to the Seaside Shanty a few times at different times of the year - always welcoming and comfortable. Last evening was a picture perfect late summer with full moon rising - we sat outside. Food is creative, well presented and tasty. Good choices. The service was fine. We'll be back. Thank you.

Two of us had the special and two of us had the fish and chips. Those that had the special really enjoyed it. Those of us who had the F&C were a bit disappointed in how much batter was on the fish - looked like a giant piece, but nothing in the last 2" of the outside total area and lots of space between the batter and the fish. Too many fries added to the plate as well...

We always enjoy the Seaside Shanty. The food is delicious and the setting outdoors on the patio is beautiful. An espresso machine would be a great addition to finish off a perfect evening.

My husband brought “take out” lobster roll, and seafood chowder home today.
Obviously the current owner is riding on the coattails of previous (6-7years) owners. The chowder was made with tiny little tough scallops, as well as tiny little shrimp like you get from a can! NOT anythingI would like tourists to go home with the idea that it is anything like they should get in NS! Shameful excuse for seafood chowder!
As for the Lobster roll….it was “passable”, but none of the food he brought home was worth the $65.00 (approx) he spent! We will never eat there or get food from there again!
