Pleasant Street Diner

Our favorite seafood place hands down. The portion sizes are amazing. Ive never been able to finish a plate. Hubby and I shared a haddock tips and still struggled to eat it all. My favourite dish is the fried clams. Get there early in season as they go fast. The haddock tips melt in your mouth. Scallops are fried to perfection, so juicy and flavorful.
We've been to just about every seafood place in the Maritimes, but this remains our favourite.

Must eat an when in Halifax (Dartmouth). Best fried pile of seafood anywhere. We live in Calgary and visit every trip to the east coast... even have convinced friends from out west to go.

Stopped in here after a training course and was glad i did. First off, all the staff are super freindly and accomodating to all the patrons. A real sense of family and teamwork here.
Secondly, the food. Huge portions at a fair price. Not to leave out the quality and freshness of the seafood which were great.
I ordered the scallop and haddock tips plate. Couldnt finish it in one sitting, so without even being asked if i wanted a take away container. I was offered one by a staff member with a smile.

I have always heard Pleasant St Diner had the best fish and chips. As a first time customer I was expecting just that. I decided to do a take order. As I was waiting I noticed in the kitchen that pre-fried fish were being reheated and served and that's basically what I received. Fish was warm but the coating was so hard I needed a knife to cut it. And was very dry . Best part of the meal were the chips. Not going to be a repeat customer.

The Pleasant Street Diner’s staff, service, and food were absolutely excellent!!!

I have come to the Halifax and Dartmouth area on and off for the last 16+ years from Ontario. Myself, family, and friends used to always make sure to go to John’s Lunch in Dartmouth which I found out today (August 20th, 2025) that sadly it is no longer around :( However I was told about the Pleasant Street Diner through a recommendation who said it was as good if not better than John’s Lunch… And I was not disappointed.

John’s Lunch may be gone now, however I know the place I can’t wait to come back to with my family and friends moving forward - Thank you Pleasant Street Diner for the outstanding hospitality and service!

The food is consistently good. They made a mistake once on my order and rectified the mistake by giving me the incorrect and correct order for the price of the correct order. That is exceptional service.

This was our restaurant of choice in Dartmouth for seafood. Earlier this week we visited. We didn’t realize how much the prices had gone up. Clams & Haddock tips are now $28.50, Clams & Scallops the same. I feel that this is a bit pricy compared to other restaurants we visit in Halifax/Dartmouth area. Although I enjoy their food we will give 2nd thought about going back.

Old school diner. Super busy! Honestly best fish I’ve had!
