Smitty’s in Dartmouth remains a dependable spot for classic comfort food and a casual, family-friendly atmosphere. The menu covers all the bases—from big breakfasts to hearty dinners—and the portions are generous. It’s a great place for a relaxed meal, especially with kids or larger groups.
That said, the service isn’t quite what it used to be. While still generally good, it’s noticeably slower and less attentive than in past years. Prices have also crept up a bit, and while the food is enjoyable, it doesn’t always feel like the best value.
Still, it’s a familiar and reliable choice when you’re in the mood for a classic diner-style experience. A solid four stars.

The staff were great and provided warm, friendly service. However, I would suggest paying closer attention to cleanliness. When I visited yesterday, there was a pile of rubbish (crayons, used napkins, etc.) on the floor next to our table. It was concerning enough that another customer even yelled and moved to a different table. Regular monitoring of the area would greatly improve the overall experience.

Best Smitty’s I have ever been to! The service and food is fantastic. I have a gluten allergy (celiac) and they have a specific gluten free menu along with options on the regular menu and have never gotten sick from the food ever!! They use different coloured plates for allergens, it’s very thoughtful.

Staff were very accommodating to our group and put us at a bigger table as soon as they could. I opted for the breakfast chicken quesadilla and it was surprisingly tasty. Will be back again!
Great lunch. Food was quite good. Service was excellent. Nice to see a long-established restaurant still offering great food and service. Would recommend for breakfast or lunch.

Smittys made our gluten free dining experience so normal. My partner is celiac and our server Madie didn’t skip a beat when we had questions. They have a full separate gluten free menu available and you can also make a few things on the regular menu gf as well. They have designated, different coloured plates for the gluten free meals. I didn’t notice if they had it in the fine print but we did pay a few extra dollars to have gf toast and have the potatoes cooked differently- that’s to be expected, unfortunately. It was treat to not feel like an anomaly when going out to a restaurant. 11/10, we’re definitely making this place a staple.

An excellent Smittys, and one of the few remaining in HRM. Staff are friendly, and food always meets expectations. I've dined at this Smitty's many times, and I have never had any issues. The restaurant is always clean, and parking is easy. Prices are still great for what you receive!
