Sometimes the best experiences happen by accident. We arrived in to Halifax late on a Saturday, having just flown in from the USA. We were desperate to find a good meal at 9:30 pm. The restaurant in our hotel was hosting a private event so we walked in to Black Sheep, pleased to find they were still open.

We were greeted by a very welcoming host, who was also our waiter. Due to the late hour, there was only one other table occupied by guests. We were reassured that we still had time for dinner.

The meal turned out be far better than we could have ever anticipated. We shared a dozen fresh oysters that were some of the best I have ever eaten. For the main course we enjoyed the ramen and some sautéed mussels. Again, both phenomenal. The Tatamagouche IPA we paired with our meal was excellent.

The waiter made us feel welcome and was so personable, even though the restaurant was winding down for the evening. The ambience of the restaurant made the meal that much better. What an amazing interior design with soft lighting on exposed brick walls and high ceilings.

Thanks for making our arrival to Nova Scotia so memorable. I wish I had more photos besides my beer. When the food began to arrive at the table I could think of nothing else but enjoying it. This has to be one of the best restaurants in Halifax.

Australian friend came to town and this was our first meal.
He tried his first Caesar and his first Seafood Chowder. He was blown away by both!
Great spot for a meal!

Food was delicious, service was excellent. Coffee was disappointing, needs to be stronger, but the mimosa made up for it!

You should come here just for the Caesar. My god it's a good Caesar. Tasty food, very homely. Good pub grub. Very family friendly with high chairs. Staff extremely helpful and all round a great option for a reasonably priced homely meal, good drinks and a nice atmosphere

First time customers- there were four of us and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had the halibut hodgepodge and the flavour was amazing. Cozy and beautiful environment. We will definitely be back!

Great burger, good service. Came on a quiet Monday night and had the bizarre experience of every table that was occupied consisting of single male diners. Must be the good burger reviews combined with nearby convention attendees needing a solo meal.

The Black Sheep is one of our favorite spots in Halifax. Awesome location, nice vibes, and a cozy yet slightly upscale atmosphere that feels special but still relaxed. The service was friendly, fast, and very efficient both times we visited.

The food was excellent with generous portions. The chowder was so good we had it twice — the sauce was incredible, rich, and full of flavor. We even asked for focaccia just to soak it up. The fish cake was outstanding, with a nice smoky touch, and the trout bagel was fresh and perfectly balanced. The lobster ravioli was another highlight — plenty of lobster, creamy and generous.

The only downside was the haddock and chips; the crust and fries were a bit too greasy, though the fish itself was juicy and well-cooked. Still, everything else made up for it.

They also have a great local beer selection, including Keith’s from next door. Prices are fair for the quality and portions — a bit on the higher side but absolutely worth it. We enjoyed it so much we came back the very next day. Highly recommended.

This restaurant was a giant let down. I arrived just before closing, the host was friendly, but the staff was not happy with our arrival, I saw the look they were giving us. The waiter was nice, he recommended a good beer, but that's it. The steak was sub par in flavor. Fish and chips was only decent. The black homemade made dip was bland and look like jelly, gross. The restaurant was empty and we were sat next to the washroom, I felt unwelcomed. We were not given a chance to order dessert, because the kitchen was closed, I think a heads up and the opportunity to order before closing would've been nice. I did not feel rushed, but I did feel overlooked and underwhelmed.

Food was great, service was a tad slow but not too bad. My biggest complaint is first a super loud group at the bar - and just as they finally left a couple with a BABY entered the PUB. The kid was, as expected, more disruptive than the bar crowd.

*Celiac Review* Not recommended if Celiac** - few GF options and I got sick from a salad :/
Black sheep is quaint and lovely, the servers are great and attentive. The food however, lacked freshness and the flavors were not what to expect. Though I only had a salad with chicken added, the dressing tasted like onion, and not much else (odd and off-putting) The daikon radish was the only vegetable in the salad, which was sadly soft and flavorless.
To note: the extra chicken was a thigh, not breast, as expected (for the cost). The server and staff are wonderful, took care of everything, and were genuinely kind.

I loved the place but for gods name please do not call your shrimp lemon dish ceviche , it has nothing in common with real ceviche. Perrogies were good and shrimp tacos were alright. Vibes are amazing , dark theme and chill music was a hit , I will be definitely back for some drinks. God bless
