We always have a nice time at Gio. The food is always very interesting which sets them apart from many other restaurants in Halifax. It is a smaller space, so can get a bit loud when it is busy, but it does not detract from the experience. The servers are always very knowledgeable and friendly, and the cocktails from the bar are quite good. The experience at Gio is always a cut above other similarly priced restaurants, so they will continue to get our business.
Our first courses, chowder and scallop were delicious. My partner's sword fish was to be seared but was well done and my Cornish hen was rather dry and unremarkable. The chocolate dessert was delicious and my apple cake dry. The atmosphere at Giò is always warm and elegant but dinner was a disappointing.
Food was great. Molly was excellent as our sommelier. She recommended a lovely red to pair with our meal. Olivia terrific as our server. Both made our experience a superior one!
One of the few nice restaurants that don't force music on you during your dining experience. A rare place for quiet conversation with your dining mates...and with service staff too.
Gia is the best restaurants in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The food is creative, exceptional and a gastronomic experience. Molly was our waitress and she was wonderful. We not only love the food here, we also like the fact that it is a quite restaurant to eat in. We had the opportunity to meet Chef Greg Burns as well, which was an added treat. Perhaps my expectations were set too based on the reviews I had read online. I had expected an experience of having my taste buds wowed by a chefs kiss of flavour. Instead we ate over cooked shrimp, unseasoned lamb, and dry and unseasoned duck. Dessert saved the day. It was really well done. This might have been a bad night, but I doubt it, the speed at which the mains arrived tells me that this place is set up like a factory line, not a place that cooks with feeling.
Big servings. Scollops meal looked terrible but was not bad tasting. Service was lovely. I'd say venture elsewhere if you can.
I have been dining at Gio for years and it has been an exceptional experience each time. The dishes are so beautiful and delicious, I love a menu that changes seasonally and celebrates local produce. It's a great spot to share a meal with friends in a cozy booth, or stop by to enjoy a cocktail and oysters at the bar. I highly recommend!

Outstanding service, ambiance, menu! Very comfortable seating. GF menu requirement satisfied.
Our first time at Gio at it was a wonderful experience from the warm welcome as soon as we entered until we left. Service was wonderful and the food was delicious! I had the scallops with risotto and my partner had the steak. And the dessert... the best I have ever had.

Fabulous experience. Our server, Terri, was absolutely outstanding. Friendly, funny, and engaging. We are from out of town but will definitely come again when we're back this way. Highly recommended. Thanks!
The food sounded a bit far out on the menu. It was delicious. The best risotto I've ever had. It was under scallops cooked to perfection. Another of us had the lamb shank. It was fall off the bone and fantastic. Very friendly staff.
What a treat to have Chef Greg stop by our table and give us delicious beef satay skewers to start our meal. Everything was top notch! And right at our hotel. Bonus! We'll be back!
I love Gio! Consistently on every visit you are greeted warmly, supported by the competent professional and friendly service team, and eat well! Their menu is teeming with flavour, reflects NS local products, and is creatively prepared and presented.
