Heartwood is a heartwarming place with delicious food! I have been going here since 1996 as my primo spot to get healthy vegetarian food and baked goods. Carrie has been very generous to me and gave me my favourite kind of cookie today. The food is always great, the atmosphere is chill, and you can count on great customer service and the best veggie food in HRM!

Partner and I went on Sept 22nd to get take out as we are both Vegan and wanted to see if Heartwood had improved since opening on Charles St.
Perhaps the dine in experience is better and you get treated better. The woman on the phone seemed complacent, but we chopped that up to maybe a new employee?
I got the Veggie Curry Burger and the peanut butter cookie for dessert.
This was what I saw when I opened the box upon arriving home. Just so disorganized, and also so little food for spending $18+tax, it looked like the fries and salad were half eaten before they packed it up. The food tasted fine, but the taste was definitely not worth the price.
The worst thing about it was their cookies, $3 for sand held together with glue. I mean really bad cookies, unless you like eating sand held together with Elmer's brand glue, which is totally cool if that's what you're into. I am not a fan of that.
If you're a vegan, there aren't many places to go in Halifax, but I wouldn't recommend going here.

New location is very nice! We went at 12pm on a Friday with family 4+1 toddler. Sat us no problem and food came quickly. My husband order was wrong but he would never make a fuss. He ordered a peanut bowl with rice and got the curry bowl instead but we all loved our meals! The kids quesadilla was adult size with veggies. However it could use a dip like marinara/red sauce! The pomegranate juice was delicious! Thank you!

Ordered the tofu peanut bowl. Got rice instead of noodles. Called to nicely inform them. Could hear the girl in the phone giggle to her manager while she’s telling him the complaint.
Very unprofessional. Manager said if I want to go there I could get a free bowl. No other offer to send one out. The food is good here by the service was awful. Sorry girlie.. the words rice and noodles look very different!! Go back to school. You don’t get to laugh at me for your mistake.

Would highly recommend if your looking for filling healthy foods - the cookies are a great option for a snack and the smoothie are awesome too… the bowls have been mine and my partners go too, i would like to branch out and try some of the other things as they’ve recently expanded on what they serve.

The pizza base was solid, I could not eat the ends, It was literally rock solid. 20 dollar for that kind of pizza, it was such a waste, I do not recommend this place. Too overpriced and bad quality! The taste was fine but not worth 20 dollars

Food was tasty and everyone was happy with it, but the process of ordering it was painful. The first time I called I was told the items we picked were not available and that I must have been looking at the wrong menu, even though I was using the menu listed on the Heartwood website. I was instead told to reference the menu on Uber Eats as that one was correct. When we all chose our new orders, I called back and was told that some of the items were once again no longer available... and told to search for the restaurant on Google Maps (which links to the website menu btw) and look at the menu posted there in the photos. After looking at that menu, I saw that it had the unavailable options (burgers) still listed, so I had to call back a 4th time to confirm exactly which items were actually available.
I was really excited to have another vegan/vegetarian option for office lunches, but unfortunately the overall experience wasn't great... which is quite a bummer because the food was delicious and filling! I understand having to work out some kinks when opening/reopening a new restaurant, but people shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to figure out what exactly is available to order.

The cafe at Charles Street had very good food options and great service. We were visiting and we are so happy we accidently ran into this place :)

There is a plentiful and delicious menu here for your average vegetarian! The service is great. Our server was pleasant and attentive.
We chose the patio, as it was a mild evening. There are higher stools and comfortable cushioned lower chairs to choose from. The music was a selection of 70's rock & folk, and was perhaps a bit on the loud side.
There is a broad selection of house made juices and smoothies, as well as some wines, beers, and soft drinks.
My husband's portion of tofu steaks were smaller than expected, but delicious.
The green poutine was based in hand-cut cubed hashbrowns rather than fries. It was brimming with veggies, including a delightfully crisped kale, 2 kinds of cabbage, three kinds of onions, and mushrooms; with a black-pepper forward mushroom gravy, and nutritional yeast as the vegan option (alternative to their cheese option).
Dessert options are limited to a variety of cookies.
Having a lot of food sensitivities and allergies, it's very hard, if not impossible, to find a place where I can safely eat anything other than plain fries, so there wasn't really anything on their menu that I could eat without literally picking through, but the same is true for any restaurant I've tried.
Overall, it's a worthwhile place to try for anyone interested in vegetarian food!

Love this place. Great vibes and awesome food! Pictured is the green poutine, and my wife had peanut noodle bowl. Strawberry cider and peanut butter cookie to round out an excellent Sunday night meal!

The restaurant was so nice and clean. The atmosphere was so relaxing and peaceful.
We went out for our late dinner on Saturday and ordered Traditional Heatwood Bowl with sweet & Spicy Tomato Sauce and Green Poutine. They both were so tasty and made us feel so happy and comfortable after eating.
Even though we arrived after 9 PM, the server was so friendly and welcoming. If you are a vegetable lover, this is a perfect restaurant to go. They have vegan and gluten free options as well.

So you need to go to Heartwood! First, the vibe is laid back; chic. Second the food is delicious, healthy and plentiful. Third, service is attentive, sweet and personable; thank you again Riley 🙏 😊.
And lastly, it's the price point. My partner and I each had an alcoholic beverage, shared a generous appetitizer, each a main dish and each a dessert for under $ 100.00! Dine here! Whether a first date or after many dates this is a must visit restaurant on the coolest street in Halifax, Agricola. Add to your list this summer as the patio is under construction and you won't be disappointed. Trust me as we are not even vegan! Delicious and generous healthy portions and I loved my organic Chardonnay wine. We will definitely be back over and over!
