The restaurant was so nice and clean. The atmosphere was so relaxing and peaceful.

We went out for our late dinner on Saturday and ordered Traditional Heatwood Bowl with sweet & Spicy Tomato Sauce and Green Poutine. They both were so tasty and made us feel so happy and comfortable after eating.

Even though we arrived after 9 PM, the server was so friendly and welcoming. If you are a vegetable lover, this is a perfect restaurant to go. They have vegan and gluten free options as well.

So you need to go to Heartwood! First, the vibe is laid back; chic. Second the food is delicious, healthy and plentiful. Third, service is attentive, sweet and personable; thank you again Riley šŸ™ 😊.
And lastly, it's the price point. My partner and I each had an alcoholic beverage, shared a generous appetitizer, each a main dish and each a dessert for under $ 100.00! Dine here! Whether a first date or after many dates this is a must visit restaurant on the coolest street in Halifax, Agricola. Add to your list this summer as the patio is under construction and you won't be disappointed. Trust me as we are not even vegan! Delicious and generous healthy portions and I loved my organic Chardonnay wine. We will definitely be back over and over!

We stopped by the new location on Charles Street, and had not been here since the old location on Quinpool several years ago. I hope to leave this review as constructive criticism because the old location was a decent spot.

For the price of the food, the quality needs to go way up. Our server was kind, but with such an incredibly small menu, the lack of knowledge on the dishes and drinks was odd. We never received our drinks, and had our server come over a couple times to re-ask what we had ordered. Maybe having a notepad would help keep things organized (especially since it was not busy).

We ordered veggies sticks with guac and hummus to start. I honestly couldn't believe how low quality the dish was in general, let alone at $15. There was about 1 tbsp of stringy, brown guac on the plate, with huge randomly cut pieces of raw pepper in it (maybe to bulk it up). Our main dishes, the curry bowl at $15, was not worth it either.

It's a shame because it's a great location and having healthier options to eat out is always welcomed. But we ended up wasting our food rather than enjoying it

Friendly cashier, enjoyable healthy food option. The falafel burrito was very flavorful. I also really enjoyed the chocolate peanut butter cookie which as I purchased as they were just opening was still warm!

Vegetarian options: Many great vegan/vegetarian options.

The worst food that I’ve eaten on the waterfront. Avoid the taco salad at all costs. It’s expensive and tastes terrible.

Service was not great, they completely forgot my coffee even though in between waiting one of there employees came out to ask us, we had to confirm with them two times for them to finally make it for us.
The cookie s taste is good but texture is a bit off.
Burrito was not wrapped properly, and has a taste of an old storage room.

I'm surprised I've never reviewed Heartwood By The Sea before. Everytime I go to the waterfront I always get a meal for lunch or a smoothie. I just absolutely love that Halifax has this lovely little plant based stop along the waterfront. Gives me hope that more and more options will become available every year! Not to mention the food is delicious. Definitely recommend this healthy stop if you are nearby!

Absolutely terrible service, waited 40 minutes for a bowl and a burrito? Are they smoking pot in there?? ?? food is also very plain I can’t even taste any salt or pepper or spices?? Shut this place down. The burrito has very little beans, the appeal is supposed to be protein, not putting a salad in a burrito, I’d get a wrap. What joksters. Half the bowl is rice for $18???

Ate at the waterfront location. Ordered the Pad Thai and Heartwood Bowl. For $15 each these, for lack of a better word were both horrible. Both had little to no sauce, one was over loaded with veggies (Heartwood Bowl) one was just noodles (Pad Thai) and the veggies were hard and weird texture. Will not be eating here again.

Dry, little to no sauce, no flavour

My wife and I both got the chickpea wrap. I usually don’t leave reviews but I actually feel violated by the cost and what we received.

For the record I have no problem paying $13 for a wrap (even a small one) if it’s good. The wraps we received were FAR from even being average.

I would bet my life savings there was less than 10 chickpeas in my wrap. It’s just not acceptable guys. We demand a higher standard if you’re going to charge high prices. Please respect your customers.

I have always loved the food from Heartwood and make a point of ordering it when on the waterfront downtown. I do not normally write reviews and typically only write positive ones, however, I was so disappointed by the very little food received for the cost. I ordered the heartwood bowl with peanut sauce. The flavour was great but I can’t get over the tiny bit of food for $15.00. I’ve put a pic of my hand for size reference. This is a small takeout container; less than half full. There were 3-4 small pieces of kale with minimal other veggies. Mostly rice and a little tofu. I order here because I appreciate the healthy, veggie based and normally veggie loaded options. I brought my meal back to ask if it was ā€œsupposedā€ to be this small and was told it was. I will not be returning, despite wanting to support local, unless things change.

My favorite restaurant in Halifax. I've been going here for 6 years. Unfortunately another casualty of the COVID lockdowns--the restaurant is now permanently closed. I feel so bad for the owners having invested so much in the city only to have it taken away from them through no fault of their own. Thank you for all the good years.
