Everything about this place is good. The food, the drinks, the staff. It’s only positives.

We came for a cocktail on Friday night. The cocktails were not bad. The selection of homemade syrups and ingredients is very impressive but the taste of the 2 cocktails we had weren't that balanced/ complex compared to other cocktails we have had in the city. I tried to make a joke and some light chatter to the bartender as we were sat right in front of him at the bar and it wasn't received at all. I understand they were busy but apparently this is one of the best cocktail bars in the city so it's expected to have good/personable bartenders too. Not sure we will be back with 20 bucks a cocktail and so much choice in the city.

The employees were super welcoming and generous :) The cocktails were all divine and I will be dreaming about their shrimp skewers for the rest of my life! An absolute “must”!

Don't know if it's the perfect spot for a traditional dinner date; but if you like ordering a bunch of small dishes off the menu and trying a few drinks this is the spot, the pork belly pinxtos are amazingg! Intimate and lowkey atmosphere which I really enjoyed and really great service. My favourite bar in the city and I continue to go back!

Highwayman is nestled in the downtown area of Halifax and is walking distance from many top spots. The atmosphere is very cool and cozy, and their happy hour was amazing! We split the bread, snack platter, and charred broccoli and everything was delicious and creatively seasoned and presented. Plus - the sangria, Tom Collins, and mojito were delicious!

First, let me start by saying the food and wine here are great. If it weren't for how my in-laws were treated, I'd give this place 5 stars. In fact, I'd give this place 0 stars if I could.

Back in November 2023, my father and brother-in-law visited my wife and I from Japan. Midway through their vacation, I decided to take them to Highwayman because my wife's dad wanted to eat Oysters in Halifax. The waitress had a disgusting attitude towards my in-laws the entire time. Anytime she was at our table, she was impatient, rude, and insulting towards my in-laws. Not only in the way she was speaking to us, but especially in her body language. When my father-in-law paid the bill, she chucked our copy of the receipt at us and walked away looking pissed off. Other guests around us, who were being served by the same waitress, were being treated with respect. At first I thought the waitress was having a bad day, but after observing the other tables, there was only one conclusion I could come to: racism. Yes, I believe the waitress was being racist.

I never intended to write this review, but the thought of that day comes to mind from time to time and it enrages me. I will never step foot in this establishment again and won't recommend it to any family or friends because of my experience with that waitress. Shame on you.

I had the oysters, scallop crudo, roasted squash, and pork belly pintxo. Everything tasted great. Just a bit pricey.

Excellent food, drink, and atmosphere. We sat at the bar and ordered tapas along with a number of cocktails. Everything we had was top notch. The place was packed the whole time we were there but the staff didn't seem to have any trouble keeping up.

We had such a great night. Cocktails were on point. Food flavor combos spectacular and service was attentive and so kind. Cool hip vibe. Great for a date night. Don’t miss this gem. We loved the pork belly pinxtos and the charred carrots. Truly special gem of a place!

Fantastic experience at this restaurant. The atmosphere is quaint and quiet, not too many tables and it certainly wasn't loud when we were there. The happy hour drink deals are great value for high quality drinks that someone actually put effort into. Service was casual but perfect.

The food is also great, they make probably the best brussel sprouts I've ever had. I saw a lot of people with the Oysters so I assume that's what they're known for but we tried more of a sampler menu and it was delicious. Definitely recommend trying it out.

Came here for tapas with a friend. Ordered their kitchens choice meat & cheese plate which had 2 meats, 1 cheese, and olives. We also got the corn ribs which were great, the patatas bravas which were exceptional, and the pork belly & fennel pinxtos which were very tender and the flavors paired really well.

Food was pretty good and the quantity was fair but the wait time took about an hour other than that’s place is alright.

Visited this bar on my last night in the city - super friendly staff, great atmosphere, really comfortable room temperature even when a full house. As the sober friend, it was great to be treated with just as much kindness and attention as those buying high price cocktails. The bartender (Jake?) was really kind and considerate and brought me hand squeezed OJ - despite being in limited supply :) will for sure visit again.
