When I was younger I loved to go out dancing or for drinks, in places where you had to bellow into your friend’s ear to be heard. I no longer enjoy that level of sound volume, and I was surprised to find it in a pricey dinner restaurant.
I guess the staff find it to be normal, because they were unwilling to adjust the music, and did not offer to move my friends and me to a quieter table. Also, when I said I didn’t think I’d be able to stay, they did not offer to comp the $27 glass of wine I barely got to taste. The waiter was very pleasant but did not offer any solutions that would make it possible for me to stay.
I’ve been out to lots of restaurants in the past year, and some concerts as well. This is the first time I’ve felt physically unable to bear the environment.
I was quite disappointed to miss an evening with my friends. Also, the menu looked wonderful and I was sad I didn’t get to try it. And now I never will.

This place came highly recommended from some coworkers and friends but I’m not really sure why. All of the menu items seemed very simple, full of mostly pantry staples, and some of them were quite expensive. We tried some of the tapas but overall felt it was all pretty replicable at home. I just can’t quite see a reason to try any more of the food here…

That being said, the cocktails are good and the oysters are quite good! The cocktails are expensive for Halifax but well crafted and tasty. I’d suggest stopping in here for a drink and a few oysters, but finding better food elsewhere.
Like magnolia, these places feel like they’re trying to be fine dining or trendy without putting in the effort to actually pull it off

Incredible cocktails and tapas. Very unique food and drink, would suggest going with a crowd to try a lot of different options.

I went with my girlfriend from Spain. Food was pretty good but was extremely unauthentic. Almost nothing on the menu was cooked in a way that you would see in Spain. It was pretty disappointing to see Spainish/North American fusion.

Fantastic cocktail bar. Tons of really unique and very tasty cocktails. The food is good as well. We got a few shareable plates and it was excellent.

What a lovely discovery! We are from Spain and we try to find restaurants that bring us home (tough task), but Highwayman made it happen! Everything we tasted was delicious and they had croquetas which for me is a must have in a Spanish restaurant. I would highly recommend it. I wish the name of the restaurant was Spanish since we almost missed the place because of that O.O! Kuddos to the chef Luke Gaston for achieving the Spanish essence!

I love this place. I went for drink and tapas which is their specialty. I tried martini which was good and two different tapas. One was the potato which is so delicious. The sauce is creamy and full of flavor. I also tried sourdough bread with tomato which is good but it’s something really simple and a safe option maybe. The best part is their san Sebastian or basque cheesecake which is just wow. The vibe is also really good and they give you a card with your bill which is really cool.

Visited this place last night after the bartender at Barrington Steakhouse recommended it here during our quick trip to Halifax.

Didn’t have any food, so 5 stars for now!
Atmosphere was beautiful: ambient lighting, deep house music, place was filled with smiles and laughter of other guests—until we got asked if we wanted to order drinks.

Blonde bartender asked if we wanted anything right now, and that they would be doing last call in 10 minutes. We understood, and Martyn asked him to make him the “bar favourite”. Naddie’s also a mixologist, and understood that I basically wanted any popular drink. The bartender was short with us and said “Well what do you want?” Martyn responded, “The bar favourite man. Anything popular!” The bartender looked annoyed and said “well I don’t know you so.” Martyn again insisted that he make anything, and then he did.

Would’ve given 1 star if the drink he made wasn’t delicious; it was a light soda water based drink that had a hint of sweet fruit.
Naddie got the Sgroppino, which she said was the best rendition of a French75 she’s ever had. Super yummy.
Wasn’t a bad experience, but not the best one either.

We loved this place so much we came back a second time after our trip of the Maritimes. From the selection of quality cocktails to the awesome service and choice of late night bites and dessert, we were hooked. The Thirst Aid Kit was my go to cocktail and we thoroughly enjoyed their wines, basque cheesecake and the tomato bread was divine.

Travis our mixologist and server added to the evening and it was a perfect way to finish off an incredible trip across the East Coast of Canada - Thanks Travis! Thanks Team!
