Came here around 4pm for happy hour and it was almost empty so it was nice having the space to ourselves. Reservations were showing as booked out around that time too but there is likely seating not listed online.
Got the seafood & snack platters which was a nice way to try a little of everything, it came with half a dozen oysters too and you can mix and match different types. It’s not a large space so it probably gets full during busy periods.

Great place to go, really not expensive for the quality of food. Amazing service, fantastic drinks and a really great atmosphere. I would definitely recommend it for going out on dates and enjoying oysters
Tried Highwayman in the evening, so I had a chance to try some things on the after 10 menu.
The oysters were a great start! They had some from Nova Scotia and P.E.I. I also tried the garlic shrimp. The garlic/wine they cooked it in was a little strong with alcohol but overall a good bite.
The cocktails were very tasty and fun! My 2 favourites were the one pictured with a scoop of mango sorbet and the coconut-matcha cocktail. Both packed a punch and had alot of flavour!
Would recommend for a fun night out with friends or date night!

We visited The Highwayman for a double date with friends visiting from Montreal, and it was the perfect spot to catch up and enjoy a night out. Our server, Rob, was fantastic—friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout the evening. The food came out quickly and everything we tried was delicious. The mushrooms were my personal favourite—definitely a must-have for any mushroom lover. While the desserts were good, the savoury dishes were definitely the highlight of the meal. It is on the pricier side, but I felt it was well worth it for the quality, service, and experience.

This delicious tapas restaurant is the perfect spot for a date night or group outing as long as you like to share! The server was friendly, responsive and the food came out fairly quickly and not all at once. There wasn't a single dish we disliked though some we loved. They also were very careful for my allergies. Highly recommend making a reservation and parking can be a bit of a challenge.

Don’t count on this place for any important reservations. If it’s an important occasion (birthday, graduation, important date) reserve at any restaurant except this one.
I was supposed to eat here last night. I made my reservation two weeks in advance. The dinner was a special occasion, which I explained in a note when I made the reservation.
When we arrived the restaurant was closed.
It is absurd that this 15-table restaurant can’t call people who have reservations to tell them that the restaurant is closed.
I’ve eaten here several times in the past and it is good by Halifax standards. But it isn’t worth the risk and the awful customer service.

We chose The Highwayman to celebrate our son’s high school graduation, trusting its place among Nova Scotia’s Top 25 restaurants for 2024 by Curated Halifax Magazine. Unfortunately, it was a deeply disappointing experience.
From the moment we arrived—15 minutes late due to traffic—we were told we’d need to vacate in 90 minutes, with no flexibility or warmth. The table was by the window with no shades or curtains in direct sunlight on a 26°C day, and when we asked about it, our server responded dismissively that she “doesn’t control the weather”. No offer to move us, despite visible empty tables.
The food was underwhelming. Two separate dishes came with black hairs in them (we’re all blondes). My main was served cold with undercooked rice. No one checked on our table once, besides adding water which was spilled on us twice. The server left mid-meal and was replaced by someone else. Nobody introduced themselves either.
We noted our celebration in the reservation—completely ignored.
For a restaurant ranked so highly, the lack of professionalism, care, and basic hygiene was shocking. This was meant to be a special night. It turned into a major disappointment for a family of 4 and a complete waste of almost $300.

We had an excellent dining experience at the highwayman. We ordered 6 items which were shared among 4 adults, and we all left feeling full. Exceptionally unique flavours and were presented beautifully as well. Our favorites were the Patatas Bravas, and Tiger Mussels, but everything we ordered was fantastic. Extra shout out to our server, Jacob, who was knowledgeable, personable, and funny. 10/10 highly recommend!

We shared most of the new dishes and I have been dreaming of the Pork Collar and Tiger Mussels since! The new menu feels like authentic Basque-style food; it's incredible! The drinks, the food, the always perfectly timed service and vibes are 11/10, always.
