Johnny’s Snack Bar is right at the top of my list of favourite places to eat in Halifax. It’s a true North End gem that’s been family run for over 40 years ! You can feel the love in every part of it. The food is consistently perfection, no matter what you order. From old school flat top burgers and breakfasts to daily specials, pork chops, fried chicken, and their incredible pan-fried haddock, everything is done right, every time.
The atmosphere is classic old school diner feel & always busy. Chris and Tasso, along with their sweet and hardworking parents, make you feel welcome the moment you walk in. The service is genuine, the portions are generous, and the prices are more than fair.
Although street parking for Johnny’s has been terribly affected by City installing of bike lanes, you can find parking at the forum.
This place has it all, comfort, value, flavour, and heart. If you haven’t been, go. You’ll understand why it’s such a beloved local spot.
Everything was amazing! Tried the clams, fresh batter, and fresh food. Burger was some tasty, fries done up to perfection! I could not believe just how tasty the food was.
Comfort food.
Love the food and family that run this authentic diner.
Heard good things online so decided to pop in and give it a go myself.
Right away, johnnys has an old school feel. Booths to sit at, or the classic bar along the front.
I sat at the bar and was helped fairly quickly. Ordered up myself a western omelette. It arrived in decent time and was hot and delicious.
The home fries were great too, have never had them that style, but they were good!
OJ was nothing special, just oasis out of a bottle.
Was a good breakfast, might have to stop in for a burger or fish sometime!
Great food and service! Will definitely be back :)
Great diner food. Cheeseburger deluxe came with coleslaw, fries, and the burger with cheese, onions, and relish. Fish and chips were great too, fish was soft and buttery on the inside and crunchy on the outside. Great price for all that food, great service.
Classic old school diner with delicious favorites. We really enjoyed breakfast as well as the clubhouse, fries, and homemade gravy. It’s a very popular spot and the atmosphere is nostalgic.
Great, home-style, diner food. Great diner atmosphere.

First time there on Saturday before leaving for a day trip out of the city. Wanted breakfast but not Mcdonalds.
They were full and more people coming in. Very busy but they were pleasant. Food was fantastic as well as the price. Only issue was that I wanted WW bread but was given white. The potatoes were a nice surprise. Will definitely try this place again.
