What a unique experience! The price point is average for downtown, but that is the only average thing about this place. The food is splendid, a mix of subtle and rich flavours blended perfectly. The decor and ambient music create a gorgeous space where one feels relaxed and welcome, while the superb service enables the feeling that this is a place to truly connect, to share a meal and an experience with a friend or a loved one. The attention to detail sets this establishment apart from other downtown spots, and Mera fully deserves every word of praise it can receive.

Vegetarian options: The chef can transform almost any dish on the menu to a vegetarian option.

Very cool vibe. Aldo is the best, best server on the planet. The bread wasn't in our preferred palette but was prepared very well. Drinks were all fabulous. It is a very new, cool addition to the Halifax scene. As long as Aldo is there, I'll keep coming

An opulent environment with outstanding service and high-quality dishes plated to perfection. I highly recommend Mera for a romantic dinner date or groups looking for an amazing overall experience. PS - The Mera Martini is fantastic!

Walking in, I figured Mera would be like any other cafe. I was pleasantly surprised to find a well decorated and spacious place with delicious tea and food made from carefully sourced ethical ingredients. They have limited gluten free and plant based options that are absolutely delicious.

I've only been here once, and I had their Lisbon Sunshine Iced Tea and Green Goddess Sandwich. Both were to die for. This is probably one of my top three cafes in Halifax, definitely recommend :)

Vegetarian options: Limited but good plant based options

Dietary restrictions: Limited but good (!) gluten free options

Husband and I went for a high end dining experience. There are different ways to do high end dining - as an Experience, or as an exercise in getting the fanciest everything, or just because someone really, really loves food and wants you to taste what they think is wonderful. I really think Mera is that last kind. The first dish was a tuna cracker. I've had those before, so I was not expecting to be impressed - but I didn't count on a rye cracker that tasted surprisingly fresh, aioli that took over my mouth, subtle but unforgettable plum preserve, and a ... was that a *vinagrette-bathed* coriander leaf? Many of the dishes were like that - dishes I expected to conform to some standard of excellence, that showed up with surprising twists which created a whole different food experience. My favorite was a supposedly simple lentil dish, dusted with cinnamon, dotted with goodies, served over quark next to a squiggle of zingy tomato sauce and next to a buckwheat donut. These flavors should be the classics you expect, but they're absolutely not, if you choose to contemplate and savor them. The decor is a soothing mauve that does indeed seem spa-like. The service is attentive and gentle. The music is the same kind of soothing post-acid jazz people tend to prefer as a backdrop for elegant lighting, drinks, conversations and company; I can imagine curling up in their lounge with a Manhattan and feeling very elevated. You could regard it as an elegant Experience if you wanted - even their ceiling decor is pretty enough - but really....go for the food.

Mera is my new favourite restaurant in Halifax. They are on par with Edna, Gio or any place that you expect a beautiful experience. We had the tasting menu and every dish was done with care and a commitment to respecting the local ingredients that Nova Scotia has to offer. The standout dish was the Pork with beet cream agnolotti. This dish had 8 components and every combination was a delight and my wife and I talked about it for at least ten minutes after finishing. The owner, chef, and bartender are all extremely passionate about the food. The only critique I have is less of a critique and more of a suggestion. There were two dishes that were fantastic but would have been even better with a bit of editing. A bit more simplicity would have made a couple of great dishes into superb ones.We will definitely be back.

Of course, it is a bit on the expensive side, but the food is local, well-researched, and delicious. They fully understand the culinary restrictions of my pregnant girlfriend, which is something we found hard to come by over the last few months. Our service was on point.

We entered this restaurant expecting a high end atmosphere and that is exactly what we got. The service was great but the prices and quantity of the food was disappointing. I order a piece of cake for $20 and was a bit taken back by how small the portion was. Granted the ingredients were fresh and supplied within the province but it's hard to wrap my head around paying $20 for a small piece of cake. The service was great and the decor was memorable but the prices for the food at dinner time and the quantity given were a bit disappointing. I would like to see this place succeed but the menu will need some work.

This cafe disappoints on multiple fronts. The offerings they present are underwhelming, leaving much to be desired. For instance, their dessert platter, akin to spreading Nutella on a biscuit, is far from impressive. Despite being informed it contained 8 desserts, only 4 identical ones were served. When I pointed out the discrepancy, the server attributed it to a price reduction, which turned out to be untrue as the platter remained priced at $14, as indicated on the menu. Adding to the disappointment, the staff's demeanor was consistently unpleasant, giving off an air of unfamiliarity with basic customer interaction.
