Smitty's Family Restaurant - Halifax Lacewood

Don't expect a five star restaurant. It is a family restaurant with good tasting food, and like all other restaurants, they were hit hard during Covid, and suffer due to the prices of ingredients.
That said, I almost always order the same dish.
Bacon Denver Omelet. Comes with choice of pancakes or toast, hash browns, bacon on top, and a folded omelet mixed with tomato, green pepper, and onion (I think). I love this dish, and have ordered it for over a decade. With tax, is just over $25.
I have never regretted eating here. Servers are attentive. Customers are locals, and middle of the afternoon, the dining room is near empty as it's between lunch and supper. If you are a late diner, this is the perfect time to stop in and enjoy their breakfast menu.

7 of us ate breakfast at Smittys and we all had a great breakfast. Lots of food and the waitress was excellent!!

The staff are wonderful. The atmosphere is unfortunately affected by the dirty, old & uncomfortable seats, and just grimy feeling of everything. The staff are doing a wonderful job in the, 'needing a reno' space. The food is okay but needs a bit of updating. It all feels like better days ahead are needed.

My kids and I stopped in for a late breakfast. Prompt and very friendly service, excellent food with a relaxed atmosphere. We will be making this a regular pit stop when we are in the area.

Waited a long time to be seated. Waited even longer for anyone to take our order which never happened so we got up and left. Not impressed (A tourist from Vancouver).

Nothing fancy, typical Smitty's. Staff are always lovely. The products they use like their bacon seems very low quality (a review mentioned the bread they use for french toast as well), but their prices are similar to fancier breakfast places. Frankly, if you're going to compete with the Denny's and Cora's nearby, you should really step it up. The restaurant is never busy and this was the last holiday of the summer and it was quiet.

I ordered on skip the dishes and it’s been twice now where I only received half of my order. I tried to get a refund with skip but they told me that they were unable to.

I usually never go to North American style restaurants as they do have to have very low standards in terms of food and cleanliness, so I wouldn’t go if I haven’t had a meeting here.

So, everything turned out just like I had expected: warn out peeling couches/old furniture, dirtiness, disgusting burnt coffee, and pancakes swimming in cream and sugar that you can’t eat them. Just confirms my point

My order was wrong The lady at the door. I asked a specific question too and when I asked her if she understood, she said yes and clearly she didn’t when I asked her if she relayed the message to the waitress she said yes, she didn’t. The waitress hardly paid any attention to us, and then when I asked her, if there was any type of rewards, they offered there, she blatantly told me no in the middle of ourconversation she showed up with the debit machine before we even said we were ready to pay. We were sitting there in conversation. Rude.

I stop in for breakfast each time I'm over-nighting in Halifax. The last few times I have been fortunate to be served by Jessica and she is stellar. My whole family appreciate how attentive and quick with the refills she is. The food is what you would expect in a chain breakfast spot, but as good or better than the competition, but it is Jessica that keeps us coming back. I hope that her employer recognizes her value as an emissary for their business.
