Came in at 9pm on a Friday night, the place was completely empty! We had to leave since there was no one to seat us or take our order. Very

Rotten chicken served for drumsticks (wings of heaven)that we ordered. Had an upset stomach after eating here. Definitely not worth the price.

The food was catered. When we purchased a ticket from the Jamaican Cultural Association the ticket included the price of the meal.

Food was great and yummy. We went there with family and friends and all of us liked food. The service provided was really awesome by the guy (didn't remember the name, sorry) who served us.

The food and drink menu are fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised to see a mezcal focus on their cocktail list! It worked very well with food offerings. The staff were also very friendly and had great suggestions. Looking forward to going back and trying all the small plate options we didn't try!

Went here last night to celebrate my birthday. Food was delish! Service was terrible. Website inaccurate. Decor pretty! We went early to take advantage of the posted happy hour on website Told this wasn’t the accurate HH time and only 10 min left. Server laughed it off and said “there’s lots that isn’t accurate on there”. Server then proceeded to chatter on about personal stuff that was quite depressing (property taxes, friend suicide etc) I finally interrupted her so we could order drinks before the HH ended. We had to get cutlery and napkins from other tables. At one point there was 4-5 staff, no one else in there except us, but they were so busy setting the place up for evening that they weren’t checking in on our table! We piled our dishes at the end of the table to hopefully give them a hint. We had planned to have more drinks prior to eating and then stay for music but left as service continued to be terrible. Disappointed. But Would definitely do Take out as the food was delicious…

SURA Lounge and Bar: a Food and Experience ReviewCustomer Service/Staff: 10/10Food/Cocktails: 9/10Environment: 10/10A man came into my work yesterday (who I later found out to be the Manager of the establishment) with discount vouchers for a new (re-launch) spot called SURA, encouraging locals to come try something new. He described it as a Modern Lounge and Bar that served Indian food and cocktails, and his description is very accurate to the experience. Excited to be welcomed into a new local space, I obliged.ENVIROMENT: When I arrived, I was immediately greeted by the smiling faces of staff members and a stunning jewel toned lounge room that was warm and welcoming. It wasn't particularly busy (Monday's normally being slow for most restaurants/bars) so I had my pick of seating. I chose to sit at the bar (in one of the comfiest bar seats I've ever sat in I might add), the music was the perfect level, not too loud, but filled the silence if there was no conversation. The lightening was well lit, and for those with sensory needs, there were many cozy two-seater spots that had dimmer lighting for a calmer experience (during the night time, during the day the sunlight would make it much warmer and brighter).Craig (the Manager) proceeded to welcome me, and give me a little history of the establishment, his knowledge and wit was refreshing, and was a pleasure to speak with while I was being served. SURA, connected to Rasa next door, was created so there could be a space that could house the modern businessman for after work cocktails, a local date night, meetings and events, and Indian food lovers in the downtown core. Focusing on serving local spirits, Nova Scotia craft beer, and homemade food, the price you pay is well deserved for what you are getting. Clean, fresh, and extremely hospitable.FOOD/COCKTAILS: I had the Chalo to Mexico cocktail ($17), it was bright, fruity, well balanced, and the flavours complimented each other wonderfully. The staff are passionate about trying new flavours, cultural fusions, and featuring their creativity to their patrons. For dinner I had a classic Butter Chicken and Garlic Naan ($21), and if you choose to sit at the SURA side, you have the option to pick from the SURA food menu, or the Rasa food menu. I'm not normally seeking out Indian food, but this dish blew me away.Perfectly spiced for the native palate, and the newcomer, the sauce was hearty with a big kick of spice, and the chicken was juicy and fresh. The serving of homemade Naan (two pieces, on Craig's recommendation) was lightly charred, covered in pieces of garlic and butter, and thin enough so a little went a long way. the ratio of Naan to sauce/dish was perfect. For dessert I had the Rose Kulfi ($12), which was a rose preserve, milk, and cardamom based iced cream. My only small critique was the presentation of the item, otherwise it was refreshing, with the perfect amount of real rose flavour, and had a sorbet like texture. I honestly wanted to lick the plate clean afterwards.STAFF: I was thankful the head of operations, Deeksha, was able to come speak to me. Bright, full of drive, and wanting to give her customers the best experience, you could see how passionate she was about the business. Her and her team exceeded all expectations in regards to hospitality and customer service.Supporting local businesses is important to them, and I hope with this review you will choose to support this growing business in our Downtown Halifax core. I'll definitely be making this a regular spot to go to. Thanks for reading.

I was in the area so I stumbled upon this lounge looking for some drinks and food. The restaurant was empty but the atmosphere looked nice so I proceeded in, was presented a menu reflecting the place wants to seen as a upscale Indian bar. I ordered tandoori chicken wings and a veg appetizer and a “indian” cocktail and for the price i was shocked how little there serving. There charging $15 dollars for five chicken wings that taste like their air fried. I wouldn’t have minded if there serving tiny amounts of food but the food isn’t even good.I would actually give place one stars but I don’t want them to be able to remove this review. Look at the pictures and see if you would come here again in that much food cost $53 dollars

Went yesterday @ 4:15… google says it’s open. It was not. We called and someone answered and then hung up. That was very disappointing

One day saw an ad about this place, as soon as we got a day off went to this restaurant and it was closing at 8:20pm on Thursday night. I was thinking that we might didn’t check the hours of operation, but no. They just decided to close earlier and didn’t let us in.

Went there with my girls for dinner, the lounge was empty, there was literally no one.The staff seemed to be in a hurry to close the place. We had called before going in,so I don’t understand why they would keep open and not cater properly to the one customer group that bothered coming to their restaurant and then want to close in a rush. The veg food was good but the tandoori chicken was terrible.

Sura responded back and I appreciate their prompt note and the fix they have provided. Restaurants that take customer feedback and make adjustments accordingly I value as they are listening, acknowledging and adjusting their practices. This customer will still be visiting Sura Lounge & Bar, and although the rating on this complaint was 1 star previously, their practice of responding and reacting, gives them a 5 star in my books! My original complaint:"Being one of the more expensive joints to get Indian food or Indian fusion food in Halifax, they recently changed containers for one of their items (Hakka Noodles) and they still charge the same ridiculous price for it. I order regularly so this was quite a surprise. The restaurant first tried to note that they hadn't changed the containers and after understanding how well I know the dishes I purchase regularly, they admitted they changed containers because it was cheaper but the quantity was the same. It wasn't as we tried it in the same container for another item we ordered.Dishonest practices of this nature are sad to see from a local restaurant."
