The Barrington Steakhouse & Oyster Bar

Great food and a nice restaurant. The calamari, oysters, asparagus, mashed potatoes were unforgettable! Our steaks were also perfect! A bit disappointed that we told them it was our 15 year anniversary and they didn’t acknowledge it…but a table across the way was getting congratulations for their celebration…Otherwise, a good meal.

Amazing service, delicious food and a wonderful atmosphere! I've been here a couple of times, most recently for my birthday, and would recommend it over the other steakhouses in town I've been to.

My friend came into town for her birthday/American Thanksgiving dinner. She ordered a steak that was well done, Chicago style. First off, they mixed her order with her husband’s steak, which was medium rare, and they both got the wrong steak. The two steaks were sent back, and the second attempt of my friend’s well-done steak came out medium, which she could not eat. The third attempt came out medium to medium-well, at which point she gave up on her birthday dinner. They gave her and her husband some free drinks and took care of her bill, which was nice. However, that does not make up for her having a very disappointing experience on one of the few nights that she is in town. She never got her well-done steak and just ate around her medium to medium-well steak. On top of that, there was a note on the reservation about it being her birthday dinner, which there was no mention of.

Furthermore, when we got there, they initially wanted to sit us at a high top in the lounge despite it being a dinner reservation. When I asked for us to be sat at a table due to having a baby, the manager in the front was defensive by saying that we did not have a note about having a baby with us, which is true. She also had a tone. I did not feel welcome within minutes of being there. She could have just acknowledged that our preference for a table was not a high top, especially since we made a reservation ahead of time for a birthday dinner.

We paid for our dinner with $20 off despite us eating alone and our whole experience being centered around them simply not being able to make my friend’s birthday dinner. On top of that, we ordered soft veggies for our baby with two teeth and specifically asked for soft, and the veggies came out chewy and unsafe to eat. We had to ask them to steam it again. It is not about the money, but putting a $20 price on our whole experience is almost degrading.

This was sadly our worst dining experience in Halifax so far. This picture is the third attempt at my friend’s well-done steak, at which point she simply gave up, and the servers did not care to correct the experience.

The two Ben’s at the bar were awesome. Matt the Manager was great as well. Gaeten the server was a good fit and did a great job. Highly recommend for a company function!!!!

Had a beautiful dinner last night at the Barrington Steak House and Oyster Bar. The meal was exceptional. I had the Baron Ribeye and my son has the Cigar Tenderloin. Both steaks were absolutely delectable. We enjoyed the bone marrow mashed potatoes and had asparagus with Bernaise sauce. Also the gravy that came with it was flavourful and did not disappoint. Our server was lovely and helpful.

After the 18% tip the bill came to just over 300$ for 2 of us.

I would definitely go again for a special occasion. I loved the elegant ambiance ❤️

Horrible service. Clocked 27 minutes from me sitting down to even get a water, the person joining me was about 10 minutes late, and for the first entire 10 minutes I sat alone without being tended to whatsoever. Finally when the sever came after my date did it still took 20+ minutes for our drinks to arrive after they were ordered, the place was not that busy. The server also was not knowledgeable about wine whatsoever when asked for a pretty basic recommendation.

The vibe was nice, the steak was great. The mashed potatoes had flavour from The bone marrow but outside of that felt like they were left out for an hour. Bruschetta was not a hit. The roasted Brussel sprouts were also good. Cocktails were below average.

I wouldn’t go back for the price they are asking.

We had an amazing experience at The Barrington Steakhouse & Oyster Bar in Halifax! From start to finish, everything was perfect. The atmosphere was warm and upscale without feeling stuffy, and the food was absolutely delicious sides, and beautifully presented dishes.

A special shoutout to Ben, our bartender, who truly made the night memorable. He was friendly, attentive, and had fantastic recommendations for both cocktails and food recommendations. You can tell he takes real pride in what he does, every drink was spot on!

Overall, this is hands down one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Halifax. We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in town!

We made a reservation here as we were given a gift card after a bad experience at one of their partner restaurants in Charlottetown. We had an amazing experience at Barrington from start to finish thanks to the assistant manager Grace who took care of us. We told Grace about our negative experience at the other restaurant and she made sure to make our dining experience at Barrington outstandingly positive! Grace was friendly and pleasant, she explained every dish we asked about in great detail and advised us on menu choices. We shared the caesar salad (very garlicky but delicious), the 14 oz Rib Eye (tender and juicy and done exactly as we ordered), and the brussel sprouts (delicious -even my husband liked them and he never eats brussel sprouts). We were too full for dessert but the menu looked great! The ambiance is really interesting as they have items from the original building, and it was quite with light music in the background. We highly recommend dining at Barrington when you are in Halifax and thanks again to Grace for such an amazing experience.

Lunch time for our last meal before heading back to Edmonton. Excellent food! My husband Paul was wowed by his steak sandwich, and I thoroughly enjoyed my calamari and mussels. Great food and fantastic service.

5 of the boys from the class of 1990 had an awesome reunion supper. Our service was top shelf

I was craving the beef Wellington so I mentioned that in my reservation. Our server (I believe her name is Theresa or Duresa- sorry I asked the name after the meal and a bottle of wine!) inquired about it as soon as we were seated since the Wellington needed an hour. I immediately confirmed and while waiting she helped us with combining 3 different personalities to choose a wine to suite us all and helped with the starters we needed as well. Ambiance was elegant. Server was above and beyond. Food was to die for! There’s more - the leftovers! We couldn’t take them with us so they refrigerated them for us and we collected it the next day! Now that’s hospitality!

I had the salmon, it was incredibly salty. I could not eat it. If you are looking for lively and fun this is not the place. This place has a corporate vibe. Pricing a bit high for most folks.

My husband and I had an amazing dinner at this location on our recent trip to celebrate our anniversary. The food, staff, and atmosphere were outstanding, gracious, and friendly. The food was fantastic. Hats off to the chef. Anyone out for the day looking for a great spot to eat, we suggest stopping in, you will not regret it. Thank you to everyone working while we were there, great job!!
