Was in for a cocktail and a dessert with a friend.
The drinks (one was a mocktail) were excellent.
Our server was great, but the person who sat us, dumped us at the worst table when the place was basically empty.
My friend had the cheese cake which she loved and the raspberry coulis was clearly home made and delicious. She loved the cheese cake but I found it overly rich and creamy. Almost a hard cream cheese consistency.
I had the apple crisp, and it was by far the worst I've ever had. The apples were cut too small and consequently they were over cooked and mushy. It wasn't warm and the crisp topping was a glutinous mass that made my teeth stick together.
Most shocking was the $70 price tag for two mediocre desserts and a couple of drinks. Also when did bars start charging as much for mocktails as they do for drinks with alcohol.
All in all I was very disappointed, the place did not live up to its rep and I won't return let alone recommend to anyone.
Beautiful place! The dessert is.... sorry trying to find the proper word.... DEE-LISH!!!
Generous portions too!
I definitely recommend their drink menu and making sure to experience their underground bar too. This is not a place that you can go to based solely off of a google review, you MUST experience it for yourself!!
If you know, you know.
I had the pavlova- light, airy, the lemon curd wonderful. Hubby had peanut butter pie - super decadent.
Cocktails were wonderful!
Food was great
Found it a bit hard to read the menus with the limited lighting.
Great desserts, comfy seats.
An intimate setting for small groups. Lovely staff and very accommodating.
I had a pleasant experience ordering a cupcake bouquet from the middle spoon (noble) for a micro wedding. I was in contact with Lacey. She was very thorough and well organized. When the pastry chef ran late for pickup, she was well adaptive to the situation. She managed to still deliver the cupcakes before the wedding and communicated well through the process.
The real secret sauce to life.
Second time I've been here. Both times, incredible deserts and amazing cocktails. Definately a stop every time I'm in Halifax!
My husband and I went to the Middle Spoon with some friends for my birthday. It was delicious, i had the apple crisp. After our friends left we decided to go hang out downstairs, where we had the pleasure of being served by Victoria! Gotta be honest, the drinks were great (and strong) but the service was the highlight. More than anything, this is what gets us coming back to a spot. She was friendly and funny and we enjoyed it very much. I fear we might have taken up too much of her time, but we like service provided by human beings, not hyper polite robots, and Middle Spoon* certainly offered that, both upstairs and downstairs. Thanks for the great evening!

Pros: nice ambiance, great mood lighting
Cons: food is bad, service is slow, not much seating
Portions are huge but ... their sticky toffee pudding tasted like it had tiny plastic beads in it--inedible. My date tried one of their sundaes; it was just bland, boring--I could have made something more interesting/better at home 🙄. The cocktails tasted weird--like the flavors they were using just don't work together. And service was very slow. I was really looking forward to this, and it was such a letdown. If the food were at least good I would recommend this as a great date place, but no.
If delicious dessert is what you want, Dessert Yard is FAR better.
Decent food, service leaves something to be desired
Parking: There are parkades in the area. The restaurant is right on the street, so it does not have its own designated parking lot.

Such a fun little spot for dessert. There is a speakeasy that requires a password and it was so groovy. The servers were so sweet as we celebrated a friends birthday they even took pictures of us. Hard to find parking downtown but was a great spot.
