I really like the concept of the speakeasy. Got the amble crumble which was nice. You should mainly go here for drinks. The once upon a dream was my favourite drink in terms of presentation and taste. I really like having a drink that puts on a show. There is a drink called the disco inferno which they light on fire, however it was very pricey and I felt I was close to my limits. But definitely might get that next time. Well worth a visit.

This is how I got my order delivered!! My palate was dead after looking at it!! You can judge by the photo whether it was worth $25 for two desserts!! Btw if you can’t identify, it was supposed to be lava cake and chocolate brownie pie!!

Just had the worst experience of my life at the Middle Spoon. The waitstaff were rude and the coffee was like water. We commented that we didn’t even think they were open from the outside, and he put his finger to his lips and shushed us. Then when we commented on how weak the coffee was, he said they don’t pay me enough to say it’s good! Terrible attitude to be customer facing!!! We didn’t finish our coffee (because it was horrible) and he didn’t comp when we paid, in fact he had no change in the till so we ended up leaving a small tip…. A slap in the face! I was so shocked because I have been to the one in Bedford several times with great service. If I was the owner, I would want to know if my staff were representing me in such poor taste.

Went in early(5pm) for some desert! I ordered the apple crisp and was a little desapointed as the oats were not crunchy at all but soft and undercooked. Drinks were delicious, bartender did a great job. My party also ordered the sticky toffe pudim and the brownie tort, those were pretty good. Great potential tho, just needs to adjust that apple crisp recipe! 🙏🏼🤞🏻😅

Honestly the dessert we ordered was very good - had the lemon pavlova - but the vibe in the restaurant is bizarre. Oddly nice on the inside and kind of a weird idea for a place but the food was very very good.

Stopped here late Friday night after a concert. They seated us upstairs immediately and it was only a few minutes for them to get things ready downstairs at the speakeasy (I guess I’ll follow other reviewers example and keep the details of getting in to myself 😉.) Upstairs is actually really cute and I’d be happy to eat there sometime - the whole speakeasy thing was just too awesome to pass up this time around. They’re killing it with the ambience downstairs - candles, dark colours, wall of leather bound books - and the route to get there is sufficiently unlikely-looking to be satisfying. Bonus points for letting us out a side door when we left. Food and drinks wise: the desserts are incredible. The lava cake and the meringue for the lemon pavlova were both the perfect texture, and the lemon curd was some of the best I’ve ever had. As far as drinks go, the ones downstairs are stronger and more expensive - they’re well-mixed, but if you prefer sweeter or fruitier cocktails the upstairs bar menu will be more to your taste. (Which was actually somewhat irritating 😆 - the Aphrodite’s Weakness cocktail pictured below was served to me upstairs while we were waiting, and was still the group favourite at the end of the night.)

This was my 3rd time coming here to see the speakeasy restaurant underneath, previous times it’s been incredible food, drinks, service and atmosphere, a perfect romantic spot to grab delicious cocktails, but last night it felt like the place stopped caring about the super unique spot they have.

Upstairs service while we were waiting for our table downstairs was perfect just what you’d expect with great drinks and we were treated very well, being taken downstairs to our table too.

We sit and everything is nice, we get some time with our menus, take in the atmosphere of the speakeasy, joke about the drink names and order a charcuterie board.

Drinks are perfect here that’s what will keep me coming back, on the pricier side, as well as for the charcuterie board I now know it’s not worth the money to get it again for the portion size.

My real gripe with our experience last night was the music playing, it was all covers of pop music that sounded like it would be playing on the radio and not even good covers. It was passable as background noise but it does not match the atmosphere of the speakeasy at all.
Next was the waiter who served us, a man with dark hair, a beard and glasses. We thought he was trying to come off as comedic and friendly but just came off as frazzled and inappropriate for what was us trying to have a romantic date, a comment he made while asking about drinks frankly made us uncomfortable at one point, would make a better fit for a sports bar.

If we didn’t spend as much money I probably wouldn’t have posted a review but for what this place charges the experience should be better.

I normally don’t do reviews of places but I work at a restaurant too and I wouldn’t have acted like that at all. I know what this place can be and would love to be back in the future to the best it can be.

Do your research before coming here. There's more than meets the eye. Atmosphere is an extra star because of it.

Was in for a cocktail and a dessert with a friend.
The drinks (one was a mocktail) were excellent.

Our server was great, but the person who sat us, dumped us at the worst table when the place was basically empty.

My friend had the cheese cake which she loved and the raspberry coulis was clearly home made and delicious. She loved the cheese cake but I found it overly rich and creamy. Almost a hard cream cheese consistency.

I had the apple crisp, and it was by far the worst I've ever had. The apples were cut too small and consequently they were over cooked and mushy. It wasn't warm and the crisp topping was a glutinous mass that made my teeth stick together.

Most shocking was the $70 price tag for two mediocre desserts and a couple of drinks. Also when did bars start charging as much for mocktails as they do for drinks with alcohol.

All in all I was very disappointed, the place did not live up to its rep and I won't return let alone recommend to anyone.

Beautiful place! The dessert is.... sorry trying to find the proper word.... DEE-LISH!!!
Generous portions too!
I definitely recommend their drink menu and making sure to experience their underground bar too. This is not a place that you can go to based solely off of a google review, you MUST experience it for yourself!!
