The food was very good. The dry fry beans were excellent, and the fried rice was delicious. I wish the portion for the pineapple chicken was either bigger, or they had bigger pieces of chicken. For the price we paid, it wasn’t a lot of food, but tasty. I’d recommend coming here if you’re looking for fancy tasty Chinese food, not cheap.

I was the first costumer when they opened on Sunday at 4 pm, so it’s not that they were busy, the restaurant was empty. BBQ ribs were big, all bone hardly any meat and what meat there was on it, was dry, didn’t eat them. $27. Waste! Egg rolls were over cooked, I ordered 4 at $5.00 each. The Szechwan which I had with chicken wasn’t anything like I’ve had there before, not spicy just very salty. Honestly, I’ll never go back. Chef Ivan, doesn’t even greet you anymore, stood there and stared straight through me, didn’t speak, very odd behaviour for an owner towards a customer.

The Orient is Halifax’s best kept culinary secret. Chef Ivan is the authentic deal for top notch meals. Professional presentation and his mixture of flavours are simply divine. His meals are a cut above any restaurant in eastern Canada, bar none. This is the place to go if you want to experience world class food at a reasonable price. With your new menu you’ve raised the bar yet again. Kudos Chef Ivan.

We had reserved the lobster stir fried with green onion and ginger and it was amazing! The lobster was fresh off the fishermen's boat a few hours before dinner, and it was flavourful and tender. We also ordered a stir fried mixed vegetables, and the vegetables were crisp without being too oily.

Delicious food, excellent service. Not run-of-the-mill Chinese if that is what you are looking for.

Me and my two friends went for our semi regular dinner here this evening. I’m usually in charge of picking the restaurant for all of us. I googled this place after a student of mine recommended it and I was so happy I went there. The food was excellent, the service was great, and the chef, Ivan, was a class act. He came out to see how we enjoyed the food. We got the dry fried green bean, chillie shrimp, and satay beef. The food was flavourful and beautiful. We sent back empty plates. Would recommend this place. If you want deep friend chicken balls in bright red sauce, try somewhere else. If you want depth of flavour, spice, and great food, pull up.

Ivan is the most incredible and passionate chef I have met. His dedication, and preplanning pushes his dishes from food into works of art. His peking duck is outstanding.

I recently had the pleasure of celebrating Chinese New Year at The Orient, and it was nothing short of an unforgettable culinary experience. From the moment we walked in, the warm atmosphere and impeccable service set the stage for an incredible evening.

The highlight of the night was the multi-course supper, which showcased an exquisite selection of authentic Chinese dishes, each expertly crafted with bold flavors and the finest ingredients.

Chef Ivan is nothing short of a culinary genius. His passion for food is evident in every bite, and his ability to balance traditional techniques with innovative flavors is extraordinary. He even took the time to come out and greet guests, sharing stories behind some of the dishes, which made the experience even more special.

If you're looking for the best Chinese food in Halifax, The Orient is the place to be. Whether it’s a special occasion or just a night out, this restaurant delivers an experience that is both authentic and unforgettable. I can’t wait to return!

Over priced restaurant. Unbelievable… the food is ok but definitely not match the price. Never come back again.
