We dropped in today for a light lunch a drink mid afternoon. As always, there is a great selection of Nova Scotia beer on tap or bottled. We had hearty meal size salads that were exactly what we were looking for after a few days of heavy holiday eating. Good place for a meal
One of my favourite places to eat and grab a drink and they put in a great level of detail in the Christmas decorations this yeah 10/10
We stumbled into the Stubborn Goat without reservations, and ended up at the bar, which was certainly fine. Excellent cocktails, and we had the classic bar food of mac & cheese and fish & chips. Would recommend getting reservations - we were just lucky.
We tried to make a dinner reservation. Most restaurants have someone actually answer the phone when you call. Not here. At the Stubborn Goat, you leave your dinner reservation information on their voicemail. Then you wait for them to call back with a confirmation. Which they never do. Oh well, there are many better option in a Halifax.
Eclectic menu, very tasty food, superb beer list with many local and craft beers on tap - their rotational taps are worth asking about, and fabulous location, all topped off with great service. We sat outdoors and it was a lot of fun
Was a bit disappointed as the Stubborn Goat came highly recommended both on google searches for being able to accommodate celiacs and for their great food and service. Our server was not knowledgeable whatsoever as to what was gluten free or not and it turns out most items are not so my friend ordered the steak and frites which she said was quite good. I had the croquettes which were ok but really not that enjoyable as they were nothing but a jumble in all of the marina sauce they put on. I also had the lobster mac and cheese which was extremely disappointing due to being mostly cheap pasta with very little sauce or lobster so felt $22 for that was a total ripoff.
I enjoyed a good beer and a nice burger and fries; the atmosphere was great and the staff very helpful but it didn't quite match my expectations of somewhere that chose to call itself a gastropub... I'd have expected some more interesting choices and a higher standard of food .... I do recommend it but just manage your expectations as good rather than fabulous!
3/4 meals amazing Brunch Sunday - a lot of unique offerings. Just small mistake brining out eggs poached soft when asked for soft. Service and atmosphere fantastic - live music on a Sunday morning!!!
We went to the Stubborn Goat Gastropub for lunch. We had the lobster club sandwich and the meatballs. The food was very good, but the service was a little hit and miss.
This is the must-do rooftop patio in the downtown! Check out the pic. It's owned by the Stubborn Goat which is 3 doors down. It's on pizza corner, and look for the A-board on the sidewalk on Grafton pointing you to the stairs. It's such a gorgeous rooftop bar! They have a very simple snacks menu (hot dogs, nachos etc) and a decent selection of cand and bottles + sangria. It's a hidden gem for the city in the summer! Our server Samantha was great too (she took the pic!)

Chicken sandwich was very good, but messy! Daughter enjoyed the mac & cheese with large flakes of fresh white cheddar. Pizza-loving husband did not enjoy the pizza at all. Restaurant was very busy, but staff were attentive and service was prompt. Sign on the wall said "try our desserts", but when we asked, we were told they don't serve dessert. The sign was written in chalk. Maybe erase it?? Weird.
I recently went to Stubborn Goat Gastropub for my brother's birthday and, based on this experience, I will be back. To start we ordered the "little dipper" which is the spinach and artichoke dip, the fried brussel sprouts, and steak tartar. The dip has some fried spinach on top and comes with their pizza bread. It is very cheesy so you have to like that but we really enjoyed it. I loved the fried brussel sprouts especially with the garlic dip. I would order that as my meal next time, with another app to top it off (maybe the little ribs). My brother had the tartar and he really liked it. It came with homemade potato chips, which were really good as well. For dinner my brother ordered the fried chicken sandwich while my mother and I ordered the special which was fried chicken with mashed potatoes. My brother really liked his sandwich but it is spicy with the buffalo sauce. The fried chicken looked amazing when it arrived with country gravy, a biscuit, and mashed potatoes. I had some of the mashed potatoes and they were so, so good. Unfortunately, the larger piece of chicken for each of us was undercooked. Our server took the meals away and offered us something else instead. I got the same sandwich as my brother without the buffalo sauce or cheese, and my mom got a salad. My sandwich was so good. The chicken was dark meat and very nicely cooked. The bun was excellent and just the right amount of garlic mayo. Next time I go, if it is still on the menu, I will get it with a different side as I was not too interested in the fries that came with it. I would pay extra to try the mac and cheese instead. Our only complaint was there was no dessert. We all hoped that there was something but we were not offered a menu so I am assuming there is nothing. Overall, I am so excited to go back based on this experience. Those brussel sprouts were the best I had ever had. If you don't like brussels, still give them a try because they are fried, which gives them a great texture, and full of flavor, especially the dip with it.
the staff, the food and the service...great friendly people..I will go back again...the food was termindus
My husband and I wanted to eat on the patio so we entered the restaurant to tell our server. He was at the pedestal of reservations and did not acknowledge us upon entering. We proceeded to the patio, hoping he would come check on us after he was done his task. After a few minutes I went in to check just to be met with the same response. I did this 2 more times before he came to give us a menu. He did apologize so we looked the menu over to give the establishment a chance, but after 10 minutes and no server, we just left. There was literally two other tables beside us, so there was really no excuse for making us wait longer than what we already had for service. Do yourself a favour and hop, skip and jump to the Maxwell Plum for friendly, prompt service!
Lovely meal and great service. Was recommended to us whilst visiting Halifax, and I would recommend to any other visitors ?
