From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, the vibrant energy was palpable. Surrounded by eye-catching murals and a playful neon sign proclaiming “Drink More Apples,” the atmosphere was whimsically inviting, hinting at a menu with flair and creativity.Settling in, the dish that first graced the table was a colorful rendition of what seemed like an Asian-inspired fried rice. Topped with a duo of golden-brown fried chicken pieces, it was a dance of textures and flavors. The chicken was crisp on the outside, tender within, and each bite of the rice was a delightful mélange of savory spices and crisp veggies.Next came a plate that reimagined the classic fish and chips. Instead of the usual suspects, sweet potato fries accompanied the fish, their caramelized edges whispering tales of the grill they’d danced on. The fish, encased in a light, airy batter, broke away in succulent flakes—a testament to its freshness. A slice of lemon and a kiwi garnish were the perfect tangy sidekicks to this hearty main.Service throughout the meal was unobtrusive yet attentive, enhancing the casual, laid-back vibe of the place. This wasn’t just a meal; it was a gastronomic journey through familiar comforts presented with an unexpected twist. I left satisfied, already reminiscing about the flavors that had just waltzed across my palate.

We thought we were hooped for good dinner options when we arrived late after some flight delays. Traveling with a toddler meant we couldn't dine in at any of the neighbourhood pubs or bars at that hour, but Unchained let us call in a takeout order just a half hour before they closed. Two adults and a hungry toddler split an awesome French onion burger and fried chicken sandwich, both with lovely crisp fries and a garlicky dip. Both sandwiches were juicy, well composed and had perfect structural integrity. The buns held up really well despite everything that was going on in there. Great meat to topping ratios on both. The food traveled really well and both tasted and looked incredible. Highly recommend!

Got the burger and fries for takeout. Unlike when I got it before, 90% of the fries were extremely tough and dry (but weirdly some were normal). When I mention dry, I mean that they basically turned into chalk/dust when eating it. I don't know if this means that they were refried. The cynical part of me could think that they were discarded by a previous customer, but obviously there's no way to tell for sure.I also saw a thin string of something in the fries that was deep fried, when taking off the batter I discovered that it was a long hair.I didn't finish it, obviously. I've been here a couple of times, but probably won't go back now.

Restaurant review My wife and I had lunch at the Chain Yard today, in Halifax NS. In a word it sucked. The place claims to make Urban Cider, paint thinner would be a better word. The cider was $10 a can and was disgusting. It tasted like vinegar. The food was below average. I got two meatball marinara slider about the size of golf balls for $14, there was so much salt in them, they were almost grainy. My wife had the UK vegan chili fries with cheddar, for $17. More chickpeas than anything else, minimal chili, less than a t-spoon of cheddar and again so much salt it was almost grainy. At least the service was good. The place smells like sweaty socks and the decor screams leftover scrap and dumpster diving. I will never be going near that dump again. 1/5 stars.

Atmosphere was great vibes, very hippy and different. The staff were amazing, made great conversation(shoutout Daniel). The food was the best we had in our whole trip to NS. House ciders we’re amazing. Definitely a must go.

Great local place! Outstanding ciders, I really enjoyed the flight of 4 delicious choices. Had the burger, which was amazing - the apple bacon chow made it a perfect meal with ciders. The staff were super cool! Highly recommended!

We stayed in Halifax for 3 nights, and ended up coming here for dinner, the staff was super courteous, and welcoming, food was absolutely fantastic and got a couple flights of ciders. Ended up coming back for our last night (a Friday) and the place was packed, and for good reason! Still had the same great service and food quality did not suffer either. Would recommend anyone to come check this place out.
