First tried ongs back in 2019, and it was decent. It was kind of weird that we went there one night, and we were literally the only customers in the restaurant, and they had a caucasian girl, (kind of young and inexperienced) as the waitress, who really didn't know anything about Asian food, but she was pleasant enough, and the food was also decent. Have gone back since multiple times, primarily for takeout during COVID, and the quality of the food just continued to go downhill. I don't get it. They obviously know how to make decent food, from our original visit back in 2019, but the quality really has gone off a cliff. Something has changed, it's really sad, and it sucks that you have to drive all the way to Cole Harbour to get any decent Chinese food now.

We bought take out food. One hot sour soup, one vegetable fried rice. Soup was really bad. Tasted like heated up water and vinegar. Apart from liquid there were peas, carrots, mushroom bits. No tofu, not much else I can see or taste in there. Fried rice had very few bits of carrots, 3-4 peas, 3-4 bean sprouts, nothing else we could see or taste. I’m not planning on going here again, very disappointed.

The restaurant itself did not reopen after Covid but there is take out. Honestly, I don't get the bad reviews! Firstly, the take out containers for combination plates are the same regardless of any Chinese place so pretty mean to give a bad review on that. We find the food excellent and certainly beats the competition in Porters Lake, which I believe has closed. We never cared for their food because it was like frozen stuff that was reheated and they did not even make their own egg rolls. At Ongs, they do make their own and they are amazing. So my advice is ignore the old reviews below and get a take out. You might have to reheat it at home but well worth it. (Hint: don't reheat egg rolls in a microwave). And if you ask for the chicken suiguy get he gravy on the side.
Had the food here tonight and I have to say it was really really good and far exceeded my expectations. My gf and I usually don’t like egg rolls their egg rolls here are awesome. Great food overall will be back for sure!

Takeout only, and surprisingly delicious. I will be going back! I wanted to make the lady smile. I think she did. Great for our vegetarian family, but lots of choice for everyone!
Vegetarian options: They advise you if a dish has meat in it if you are ordering mostly vegetarian. Lots of veggie options
Parking: Takeout, so you are not there for long
Dietary restrictions: They understand if you are looking for vegetarian meals.

I must express my deep disappointment with my recent visit to Ongs. The Curried Beef dish I ordered was far from satisfying. To my dismay, the pot of curry contained hardly any meat and sauce; instead, it was mostly filled with undercooked vegetables, leaving me longing for a more balanced and flavorful combination. The meager portions of beef provided were tasteless, and the lack of sauce made the entire dish feel dry and unappetizing. Even the promised honey pork ribs suffered from the same fate – lacking the anticipated honey-infused taste and succulence. To make matters worse, the accompanying rice was bland and failed to complement the curry or ribs in any meaningful way. This experience left me questioning the culinary standards of Ongs, especially considering Nova Scotia's vibrant food scene. Regrettably, I cannot recommend Ongs based on my recent encounter. The lack of adequate meat and sauce in the curried dish, along with the overall tastelessness, were major disappointments. I sincerely hope that the restaurant takes this feedback into account and makes the necessary improvements to provide a more enjoyable dining experience for its customers. Until then, I have to say that my visit to Ongs was nothing short of disheartening.
Great options. Always hot and tasty :)
Food is questionable at best, the egg roll was burnt, the beef and broccoli is 80 percent stems. Disappointing.
The food used to be so good. Now it all tastes the same. And the chow mein is always served in a clamshell container so transportation is always a mess. Mentioned it a number of times. Never changes. Good bye Ongs we are ordering from Fancy now.

Great flavours and textures. Good quality beef and chicken. Lovely staff and very fast service.
EXCELLENT food and service. Always feel incredibly safe with their COVID precautions. We even pick up for our daughter and deliver to her and her family in Cole Harbour and food is still hot when we get there. Grandbabies treat when they visit us. We eat from there at least twice a month ! Highly recommend!!
The best egg rolls you can find anywhere. Everytime I am in Nova Scotia I have to go here at least once.
Great food with a quick pick up take out service
Portions are too small like rice, love the egg rolls
