We stopped in for brunch/lunch & everything was delicious!We each enjoyed a french pressed coffee. I had a spinach & tomato eggs benedict, which was served with a side of potato wedges & salad with a balsamic vinaigrette (delicious).My partner had what he proclaimed was "the best BLT I've ever had."As a bonus, we were greeted by a lovely kitty outside of the restaurant!

Not very happy with the menu and price for what you get , we ordered haddock burger and the smoke chicken club , which online come with a salad and potato wedges . Which are both $18.00 . THEN in the actual restaurant they haven’t changed the price but have taken away the sides , but you can add them for an additional price . This is highway robbery. NOT right at all .If you’re still reading , the food was actually really good and the service was amazing. Won’t go there again due to the above mentioned comments.

There’s something I can’t quite put my finger on. Perhaps it was because the place was crowded but we left disappointed on two levels. Firstly the service was poor….from sitting down to placing an order was 35minutes and then throughout the evening I felt no connection with the people waiting table. They were either overworked or poorly managed or just not interested. The food was advertised as tapas, it wasn’t. Why? When it came I didn’t really care what it tasted like. But the place is crowded on Mondays so perhaps it’s just me

Nice location in Mahone Bay. Service was ok. Meals were decidedly underwhelming and overpriced. The grilled haddock for $34 was tiny. Two spears of asparagus and a bite of red pepper was the veg along with a few grilled potatoes. The kebab was on the dinner menu but served on a tapas plate. We did get it back on a larger plate but no more food. Disappointing. With all the other wonderful options in the area, never again.

The meal at this restaurant had unusual spices in a beef kabob which is not steak. It is just ground beef. My companion ordered a hamburger. A few hours later, it resulted in stomach pains and rumblings for both of us and visits to the necessary. The decor is eclectic. The tarp over the dining area is somewhat secured. The server was reluctant to seat us even though all of the tables were empty, and the next reservation was in 2.5 hours. We should have run away.....

I’d call this a ‘m’ eh’. Went on a busy long weekend Sunday. Found a table on the pleasant patio. Service was … at best …. indifferent. Our presence was tolerated. Menu was modest, but certainly would benefit from more variety. Portions were definitely the smallest possible to not generate negative feedback. Local had also suggested 2 other spots, Next time I’ll go there.

This is my third time at Mateus and it never disappoints. It is so nice to moor at the courtesy dock on Main Street and walk to Mateus. The atmosphere and staff are warm and welcoming and the food is always incredible. The ever changing locally inspired menu is sure to surprise and delight. The owner mingles among his guests to elevate the experience and the live music was so calming. This is the place to be!

This is the best meal I’ve had since arriving in Nova Scotia. Staff and owner/chef were all super kind! The servers were knowledgeable and helpful with the menu. Well priced and good portions. The tiramisu cheesecake was heavenly. Definitely be back again before I leave
