Cafe Rio Fresh Modern Mexican

The cafe Rio on Durango is absolutely filthy. Both the black beans and the pinto beans looked extremely old and we're all dried out. I told the girl the beans didn't look good but she really couldn't have cared less. They were down to the last bit of rice and the girl didn't offer to get a fresh batch, she just scooped the small amount that was left into my taco salad shell. Food was all over the place, all the food that had been spilled and dripped throughout the day was just left there for what looked like a very long time. The lettuce was down to the last bit that was sitting in its own water that looked dirty. The girl who originally started making my food went to the back to check on more lettuce so another girl started making the rest of my salad bowl. There was no more lettuce in the back so I didn't even get fresh lettuce. The 2nd girl was definitely nicer than the girl who originally helped me. She's the only reason I even gave the service a 3. I wanted to tell the girl nevermind on the food, but I don't like being rude, so I just paid for the meal. But I was nervous I would end up getting sick from the food so I went to the subway that's next door and purchased another meal. Whoever runs that Cafe Rio truly needs to step down and allow someone else who actually cares to run that place because it is truly disgusting. When I told the person making my sandwich at subway my experience, he said he's heard terrible things about them. So they have a bad rep.

Very good lunch menu. Affordable prices with different varieties. You can choose a vegetarian menu as well. I would prefer revisiting

The food was cold, dry and they did not provide us any of the sauces except ordered. We placed online order for pick up and no one helped us we stood there for over 25 minutes just to find out our food had been on the back counter the whole time. I asked the cashier for help and she just looked at me and walked away. I walked over to the end of the line and asked the employee who was making tortillas off the manager/supervisor was available and she told me it was the same woman who was the cashier that walked away. She not once spoke to us and out of 6-8 employees working there Thursday 4/17/2025 not even one asked if we needed help. Once one employee finally came over to the pick up area he told us our god was sitting on the back counter because one order was for shrimp tacos and they don’t have anymore shrimp and handed us the bag of cold food. They not once tried to remake the food knowing we have been there the whole time. This was the first experience. The food was cold, the meat in every fish was very dry.

Food was awful & so was the service! Will NEVER go back there.

I love all the workers here and definitely recommend this place to others !! The food is fire !! The employees are very welcoming and calm. The environment is also welcoming and wonderful. 10/10 recommend!

Overall not a bad place to go, it's kinda dependent on who's working when you visit though. Most of the folks here are very helpful and friend and keep the lobby touched up as well as keeping everything food safe as well while there are a few other who are a little meaner and not always as food safe as they should be. For the most part though, the food is pretty good and the Key Lime Pie is pretty delicious. A good place to order some food and hangout for a bit as well.

I’ve given this location more chances to redeem themselves than I would like to admit. My order is wrong every single time. The ticket literally prints the order, and it’s an assembly line of ingredients.. it just can’t be that hard to get it right. Don’t waste your time and energy here.. Go to a different store if you can.

Awful experience. Where do I start? First of all, the place was filthy, trash and debris were everywhere. The food quality was terrible. The line wasn't being stocked; we were told every other protein was out. Then, a woman walked up to the gentleman building mobile orders for help, and he actually knew where backup protein was stored. We were basically told the protein was 86'd instead of being replenished. The soda fountains were not functioning properly. Hibiscus tea was empty. No paper napkins were available. This is completely unacceptable for an establishment that's been in business for this long.

Naneka was the best she was super helpful & made sure if we needed any other condiments with our order & explained which salsa was mild, medium & hot. Thanks again for the great customer service.

Terrible experience! They overcharged me for my order and assumed I didn’t understand Spanish. To top it off, they didn’t even give me a receipt. Make sure to double-check your order and confirm the price matches what’s listed on the menu board!

HORRIFIC! The server behind was refilling shrimp with his hands and touched every other piece of food with the same gloves!!!! Someone with shellfish allergy could literally freaking die!!!! Myself and other customers and his coworkers asked him to change gloves and he rolled his eyes and continued touching everything!! Just horrific. Literally could KILL SOMEBODY!! 👎👎 Left the place, not coming back.

Best cafe Rio experience we’ve had in a long time. Food was cooked well, chicken wasn’t gamey, and really decent portions. Bathrooms were even clean!
