I mean, as good or better than most in Japan
I saw this place on social media and went in at 7:59 you'll see there hours say 9 they close I was not sat and told they won't be sitting anymore. With no explanation..I wanted to just grab some dinner from a local spot and was turned away. I would understand if it was 8:45. But before 8 and they close in an hour
As always, I let you know when they are playing Creed and let me tell you the Shrimp Gyoza is the thunder waiting to escape here! It’ll take you higher!! Everything I tried was excellent! If you are nice they might even use some of their yellow chartreuse to make a matcha cocktail, exceptional.
Seriously thought everything here is wonderful and the staff couldn’t be more helpful! I was recommended this place by my Executive Team, and let’s just say it makes more sense why they are in charge after experiencing this amazing restaurant!!
Delish!!! Had to go a second night to try more!
The best restaurant in Reno. I would fly here just to go to this restaurant.
The duck hearts, beef tongue, Wicked Fried Rice with Duck, and the pork bone broth ramen were all very excellent.
Unique flavors you won’t find anywhere else. In a good way! Did the small plates on a date night and was not disappointed, a must try place. Definitely coming back.
Kauboi Izakaya is an absolute must-visit for anyone who loves bold flavors and a lively atmosphere! From the moment you walk in, the vibe is incredible—warm, inviting, and full of energy. The food? Absolutely amazing! Every dish is packed with incredible flavor, expertly crafted, and truly unique.
The only thing to note is that the spice levels are definitely intense! If you love heat, you’ll be in heaven. If not, you might want to ask for a milder option. That being said, the flavors are so well-balanced that even the spiciness doesn’t take away from how delicious everything is.
Overall, Kauboi Izakaya delivers fantastic food, great ambiance, and an unforgettable dining experience. Highly recommend! 🔥
Been to a lot of Ramen and Japanese restaurants, this one stands out with unique take on the items I ordered that really impressed me.
Look forward to a fun atmosphere and delicious dishes! There is a decent selection of drinks and food.
Hamachi was tasted very fresh and had an excellent texture. The thinly sliced pear and ponzu gel were excellent pairings with the hamachi.
The giant squid was excellently seasoned and perfectly grilled and charred.
The ten layer pork tonkatsu was a little dry (maybe over fried), but the black garlic and wasabi was delicious and added necessary flavor.
Overall, great first time!

Food was great, no issues there. But prices were a bit high and portions were small and the waitress ruined dinner for us. Everything took forever, and she was consistently rude, and she tossed our Togo box at the end of the meal instead of giving it back to us.
Will likely not be back, nicer places in town at this price point. Also the music is way too loud.
I don’t understand where other reviewers are coming from. The music was at a normal level while we there. Izakaya is not fine dining. This is not a fine dining restaurant and was not intended to be. It a place to have delicious Japanese food and drinks in a casual atmosphere. We arrived before they opened luckily. There were already people waiting outside on a Friday at 4:50. By the time we had ordered the place was all but to capacity. By 5:30 people were waiting outside. Everything we had was delicious and I can’t wait to return to try different items on the menu. The service was better than necessary. The place is amazing. Don’t let the weird reviews written by people who don’t know what the establishment is supposed to be keep you away. We had a $15 specialty cocktail, a large bottle of sake, and 4 small plates of food for $100 total. It’s fine dining for people who prefer casual dining that isn’t overpriced.
This place is so yummy
Terrible hours
Holy cow did this place surprise me. We tried some shrimp dumplings, the wicked fried rice, the hamachi and the fried chicken. All of the dishes were amazing. I plan on going back soon to try even more!
2 people 2 drinks each with the food was 110.
