The Moon Rabbit Cafe is a community cafe that opens once a month and each month has a different themed dinner prepared by a local volunteer chef. The dinners are excellent. The meal consists of an appetizer, a main course (generally a choice of two or three different items), and a dessert. Coffee, tea, water or a drink matching the theme is included.
It's about time that someone thought up a model of community meal that bridges the free buffet line and the $45/head (+plus) pop-up restaurant. Moon Rabbit Cafe brings in local [celebrity] chefs, to prepare a three-course prixe fixe, but unlike those held at for-profits, there's no ticket required for entry! A minimum donation of $5 per plate is suggested, which I imagine just barely covers the cost of ingredients (depending on attendance), but no one is turned away....
