This place is a wonderful tucked away gem. I suggest looking for it and giving it a try, you will be glad you did. It's downstairs at the old post office in down town Reno.

I got an oxtail po' boy today, and it was very good. Sandwiches come with a bag of Lays or Doritos, and that was disappointing. I shouldn't be getting better chips at Dollar Tree, but, there you go.

I’ma Reno native and have tried many restaurants/ take out over the years and this place is #1 now on my list!!! We ordered the roast beef and rice, mixed veggies, greens & cornbread, yams, red beans and rice as well as the lemon mini pies. The food tasted so good just like my nana’s food from Mississippi ( God rest her soul). The portions are very generous as we have enough for two meals and the price is reasonable because it’s so much food. I suggest anyone who loves soul food try this place and skip Cracker Barrel. This is 100xs better!

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for de-stemming the collard greens. Even most of the restaurants here in the deep south, where I live, don't do that. Shrimp & Grits are terrific. Cornbread is spot on. Keep doing what you're doing. Look forward to visiting Reno again.

11/10 would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Quaint & cozy atmosphere, the staff was hella friendly. If I could give the food 6 stars I would. As someone from the south I can attest that the food is definitely soulful, lol. The red beans & rice are absolutely fantastic, some of the best I've ever eaten tbh.
They offer a roast beef melt that is amazing. Made with thin sliced roast beef & cheese between two slices of bread, then toasted like a grilled cheese. Their greens are pretty damn good too, made with smoked turkey instead of ham hocks/bacon like im used to but still fire.

We had such a great experience at Papa What You Cooking. The restaurant was very clean, and the food was full of flavor.
We ordered:
-Oxtail with rice and gravy
-Shrimp and grits
-Mac and cheese
Everything was delicious. The oxtail was incredibly tender and literally fell off the bone when we went to serve it onto our plates. The only small issue was that the rice was a bit clumpy and not cooked thoroughly, but even with that, the meal was still enjoyable and deserving of five stars.
Thank you for a wonderful meal. This place is an absolute must try.

I was a bit skeptical in the beginning on how the breakfast bowl would taste. But I was thoroughly impressed with the perfectly seasoned grits, eggs and bacon. I’m pretty sure this place has the best grits in Reno. For the people who like salt and pepper in their grits I highly recommend taking a trip to Papa!!
