Whoever the girl was working tonight, the 20th of March, who suggested the Philly over the Cubano, I'll have the Cubano next week when I come back but the Philly was amazing. Thanks for the advice ?Bill

Second Street Cafe looks amazing but often times there's been issues using dining comps here. It has happened twice so far. The French dip sandwich was barely okay. I wanted the cubano this past Monday around 12pm but it wasn't available. The meat in the French dip was nothing like the proportion advertised in the display. What a letdown. I do however love the pesto pizza and the meat lovers pizza also. The workers do put in the effort but I think communication and customer service at the register can be improved to be more time efficient. Overall, I appreciate the convenience and location though.

Unfortunately I was really disappointed. The food is way overpriced and not good. Their nachos are nearly $10 with only cheese...if you can call it that. It's the yucky eatery fake bowling alley "cheese". The pizza is pre assembled and toppings tossed on it with no care. The slices are $7 for a tiny puce that's smaller than one Domonos piece. And the pizza was burnt. I asked when they would make a fresh one so I could get a slice (although I was cringing to order it due to the price, size and quality). The girl said they wouldn't make a new one until the burnt one was eaten. Oh man. Ok ok let me try a sandwich. Wait. No. Let's not. The turkey one was premade and looked like airline terminal kiosk food. I gave up and headed to one of the sit down spots.

Dropped by the Grand Sierra to pick up a couple of sweets because my sister had a craving for some good cake and I figured we'd give this place a shot. The modest cafe/deli is inside the Grand Sierra, on the main level, right by the elevators. The decor is modern and sleek, but low key and not overtly ornate. It's the kind of place where you can grab a quick bite to eat or some coffee, or satiate the occasional sweet tooth attack; no fuss, no muss. The young lady who attended me (Myles according to the receipt) was really pleasant. Their selection of goodies spans at least two display cases worth of pastries and baked goods, a couple of pizzas by the slice, an entire wall's worth different beverages plus cold sandwiches and so much more. The cake I chose was a chocolate mousse cake: encased in a bitter-sweet chocolate gnache dome; the mousse was light and not too sweet, the cake was bouncy and light. It was a satisfying dessert with a good balance of flavors and not overly decadent or sickeningly sweet. I got my niece an Oreo cheesecake, which by the weight of the to-go box, felt like a pretty hefty, dense dessert. The dessert were a bit on the pricey side: $21 for all 3 cakes plus tip but overall, this was a fairly good first experience with Second St. Marketplace and will definitely warrant a second visit.

Got the grand breakfast sandwich. Was so bad, burnt and one piece of bacon, for 12 bucks? Absolute rip. No flavor at all and had to dose it with condiments.

12.24.23: After the Christmas in Space Cirque show, I was surprised the marketplace was still open. Not only was it still open, it was poppin' and pretty busy on Christmas Eve. There was so much yummy goodness to look at and I wanted it all! I had to contain and control myself, so instead of getting everything under the kitchen sink--I went with a Gnome Cheesecake and 2 cookies: red velvet and s'mores. The mini cheesecake not only was pretty, it was super delicious and that's what counts the most. I got the cookies for Santa, so I'm not sure how they tasted but since they're gone. One could only suspect that Santa approved lol.

During Hotel stays, I wake up earlier than Gayle, and am the first to partake of room coffee. A save a packet for her and then decide to go down somewhere and get a nosh and some real coffee. And so it was this morning, of which I returned to our GSR room with pretty good coffee and a tasty (albeit crumbly) pumpkin muffin. Of course I shared and it was enough sustenance to avoid a sit down breakfast and allow us to get back home to Genoa to deal with any hunger then. Sometimes you just want to get home! The 2nd Street Marketplace "sweet roll" selection is vast (and tempting) and much better than what's offered at Starbucks next door. Maybe the coffee wasn't quite Starbucks quality, but it was good enough and without the line. The only downside is that both 2nd Street and Starbucks (among other GSR food establishments) serve a captive audience within a casino with no surrounding commercial neighborhood. So of course my coffee and muffin was pricey.

Ordered a pizza slice. Slice is decent size, not super tasty but ok. When it arrived, pizza was warm. I told the cashier I don't eat cold pizza, want it warmer. She said she can't reheat since they don't have microwave. Dude, a pizza place can't serve hot pizza? C'mon. After I ask second time that I won't eat a warm pizza like a $2 gas station pizza when they serve full price for it, they warmed it up and I was able to eat it. I had a heartburn after an hour tho. Keep in mind!

If I could give this place zero stars, I would!I will preface by saying that we are regulars at GSR. We stay here two times or more a month. This eatery has never been all that good..service is usually terrible and super slow and it's always dirty. The one thing that used to be decent was the pizza...I am that girl who gambles and drinks until 3am and then craves pizza. I always use my food comps there to get a slice to take up to the room. This night was exceptionally terrible. First off, I looked at the pizza case, and could tell that the pizza was overcooked and sitting there for many hours. So I asked when they were putting out a fresh pizza and was told that they had none in the oven and weren't making anymore. Oh well, I was hungry, it was late, so I decided against my better judgment to get a slice of cheese pizza.and guess what!!! As soon as I got my slice and started to walk away, they bring out a fresh pizza for the pizza case! The line was slow and lonnnnng, too long to go back to get a new slice. I should have known they were lying! I ended up taking a bite, and tossing the rest. Waste of $8 comps. Get it together, GSR!!!

It's funny, because we dine at Rim and Charlie Palmer's , but always go around the other way, so I never stopped here.Today, ( after having a satisfying happy hour).. I quickly stopped.Great place to pick up lunch or breakfast items to go.Now the desserts and pasties were impressive..Customer in front, said she had the pumpkin cheesecake muffin was good. And she was also getting a coconut ring with chocolate.Glad they moved this away from Starbucks.. not too crowded either.

Show stopping cake! the manager of the bakery John is outstanding and could not have been any nicer. I ordered a 5 layer cake for my sons 21st birthday and it turned out beyond my expectation. I can say en about their professionalism and talent.

This is a cool little spot in the Grand Sierra Hotel! It pretty much has snacks and drinks to grab on the go! They sell pizza by the slice. They also have sandwiches and burritos . They have delicious pastries anything from cakes , cookies and cupcakes ! We ended up getting some carrot cake cupcakes. They were so delicious!! We would also grab drinks and snacks from here it was pretty convenient. Everyone that I interacted with working here was super nice and friendly. Overall very convenient store in the hotel/casino . I definitely recommend the pastries!
