I stopped by for lunch. I ordered the blackened salmon, mashed potatoes and cole slaw. The meal was tasty. The waitress was attentive. The restraunt was not busy so I was able view the memorabilia on the walls. This was fun looking at photos, posters and other memorabilia. If you are coming to Reno, Nevada be sure to stop by Mels. I am glad that I stopped by.
This Mel's Is Closing Saturday For Good
Only gave 4 stars because I went to have a hot fudge Sunday and of course they were out of it, After waiting in line almost a 1/2 an hour to get seated. In all fairness it was also bike week, very good Milkshake instead Excellent menu service was great.
No frills 50s-style diner but thats partially the charm. Servers are usually super friendly and always down to chat when not swamped during busy seasons. (Get there before 7am in late August/ early September ?)Breakfast is super solid, chocolate pancakes and Mel's potatoes are especially tasty! (My personal go-to: wolfman jack, over easy ?, sub the choco chip for regular 'cakes...+ some whipped cream if u feelin feisty)For more lunchtime fare, the burgers are very yummy as well! The serversThe tableside jukeboxes do work (press the back right shoulder after making selection, youngster!) But the music isn't very loud in the diner ? maybe ask the room (nicely) if they wouldn't mind turning up and the universe may provide. Also (you already knew) a veryyyy solid spot for meeting up with your camp comrades during the Burn season for pre/post-playa pow-wows!Like the playa, Mel's provides.
I was very excited to go to Mel’s, original knowing the quality of Mel’s in LA. The moment we entered it was a big disappointment: basic ‘gas-station-eatery’ -look with no vegan/dairy-free options for shakes, cheesy-fat, tasteless veggie burger, big chunk of a pickle, diluted orange juice for 6$! and a dirty floor. To be fair: waiter Chris was a darling, another female waiter sadly been running around shouting out the orders. Someone could say it’s ‘American authentic’… but for me it’s just bad management. When we left, there was a waiting line around 11pm. Never trust that a brand will keep the up with the quality of a franchise. Hence posting the best of this place: the outdoor lights & a rare historical picture.
Mels is always a good place to eat. Chili cheese fries, San Francisco burger, Big Bopper with a Coke and Strawberry shake. Played a few songs from our table. Very enjoyable.
So Kudos to the staff. They were so in need of help. There was 4 employees to serve 30 people. The busted their A**. Great job good food. Thanks to all there on the 22nd of April at 1 AM
Enjoyed out meal, service was great very friendly staff. Definitely going back. We ate here twice during out 4 day stay.
2nd time at this location. Food is good, and the staff is friendly. Busy during the morning rush as expected. Would prefer more social distancing within seating areas. Bring change, there is a mini jukebox at the table for music entertainment ????
Classic American Diner. Great breakfast to start my day of being a tourist. I'm not a egg person so I only got hashbrowns (some of the best ever!), bacon and a English Muffin. Fresh and delish! Going back for sure

We do visit here every time we are in Reno specially for their vegetarian omelette which is very good. Their hash browns, Mel's potatoes, waffle and pancakes are also good. However their service can improve as servers usually don't come back for a while after serving food and you just have to wait to catch their attention so that you can call them to ask for anything else you need.
We went to the one in reno and the food is just okay. I ordered the Hangover 2 for myself and I'm not really a fan of it. The white guy was explaining to me what a hashbrown is too (he said it's a shredded potatoes) I guess cause I'm Asian and I don't know what hashbrown is hahahahaha.
Very nice. I love the atmosphere. It's in the sand hotel so it's extremely busy mean food will be fresh
Original restaurant providing 60s and 70s music and memorabilia brings back memories from way back. My boyfriend and I competed to see how many songs and the groups that played them we could name. The food was good to.
Super pretty and old fashion. Definitely somewhere to take your friends or family on special occasions. Customer service was amazing.
