It was slow for a Friday and unfortunately they were also understaffed. However, the one sushi chef did a great job of communicating with rveryone and never forgot a single item that was ordered. I've tried several other sushi places in town and sadly there's very few that make sushi that tastes as good as the sushi here. I've seen other places adverise as being the best by people who think higher price always means better food. Those places don't exist anymore. But I've been coming here 7 years and am never dissapointed. Some places cut the Unagi wrong. The fat from unagi is nasty and if not cut off, ruins the taste. I've had two places in town with bad cuts, but never from here.

Been coming here for decades since I was a wee lad when the restaurant was still covered in turquoise decor. This place has seen its ups and downs, renovations, and ownership changes over the years - but what's important is the consistency is always there. The recipes from my childhood are still there. It's like eating amazing Chinese food paired with nostalgia all wrapped into a delicious bite. Service is still great too. Never change Shang Hai!

Been going there since the late eighties and watched the ever changing ownership. And, through the years of change the portion size dwindled with the smaller plate sizes , but the quality of food slipped slightly and I continued to eat there ever so often when I was in the area. Today changed everything. The food was terrible and the service was awful. They took condiments away that are customary with Asian dining. And charging $4 for a pot of tea was over the top for me. Combine the quality of food and quality of service I’m saying Shanghai to Shanghai.

Asked for no eggs in dishes and confirmed it multiple times and ended up with extra eggs! Food has declined over the years. Ordered a Thai tea that came with no ice and was mixed wrong. Also waited 30 minutes for my food. Will not be returning unfortunately.
