Everything was wonderful except a lady named Kayla. She was terrible and super rude. She yelled at the door person because I said hi. I was in my work clothes and Kayla thought I “didn’t belong”. To top it off Kayla asked for a $20 cover, luckily the normal bouncer saw me and greeted me like a normal human. I paid my $5 cover and enjoyed my time. The drag show was a huge bonus!

Visiting the area and had been walking around for a couple of hours so naturally I had a giant 1.5L plastic water bottle. Came in at about 4pm with 3 other friends to break up the walking and have a few drinks. Bartender told me I couldn't have the water, which is fine, so I immediately said no problem because I don't need to drink it inside and that I didn't mind leaving it in his sight on the edge of the bar. Keep in mind there weere maaaaybe 5 people in the bar at the time. He replied saying how does he know if it's vodka inside.. again, it's a rather large bottle to be carrying around booze in during the middle of the day. I stated again that it's just water and I can leave it on the bar or he can keep it behind the bar, didn't really care to throw it away. I didn't intend on drinking any of it at all because we came to drink actual alcohol. This man fixed his lips to tell me that I can hide it outside and come back in without it. This is my first experience with a gay bar in Albany. Not that my money matters much in this situation, clearly, but if I ever come back I absolutely won't go back to this place. This really just didn't make sense and rubbed me the wrong way. I would think the place would be a bit more welcoming/ accommodating.

I had tickets to an event here through an outside promoter. The event was cancelled and I had trouble getting a refund from the promoter, but once I contacted Rocks, they were an amazing help and were able to contact the promoter and get me the refund. Really kind and helpful.

This establishment is the most unprofessional LBGTQ Bar in the State of New York. I am disgusted and disappointed by the way they treat not only their employees but their customers as well. Additionally the "management" is the definition of white trash and truly diminishes the potential this bar could have. Further supporting this they were also in violation of several New York liquor laws, and are also unaware of what the liquor licensing in this state is. I would not waste your time visiting this trashy lowlife establishment.

Drinks were good, bartender was great but some of the folks who were hanging out there made us pretty uncomfortableNew to the area and trying to find gay/queer bars. Not sure if this one was for us

Strong gay identity. Ran across the street after a disappointing experience at Waterworks...and I mean RAN. Rocks isn't as pretty but that's where the men seem to have gone. Women will be "welcomed" in the sense that they will let you in the door, but if you have a vagina at this place be prepared for a lot of awkward stares pointed your way. This place is testosterone only, de facto if not de jure. It has a strong leather presence. If you like to be tied up you're sure to find a man whose willing here. This is THE gay bar on central. I had a great time here, and I did NOT leave alone !!!Just going to rant here for a sec but as far as I'm concerned women can stay away from Rocks, last thing gay people need is a bunch of straight women messing up yet another gay bar like they did with Waterworks. Gay bars are for gay people; straight people stay away. I know we're fun to be around and a gay bar is always more fun then a straight bar but gay people NEED gay bars, straight people have their own. When staight people hang out at gay bars, all you do is ruin it and force the gay people to find somewhere else where they can feel at home and among their own. Once the gay people leave, its just another boring straight bar. Straight people who go to gay bars are so selfish and they are stealing our places to come together with our communites because that straight person is "normal" aka: boring and has no personality of their own and wouldn't know a good time if it flounced up in stillettos and slapped them like a queen with a serious attitude that our people absolutely love and straight people treat like a circus clown; all so they can inappropriately appropriate a culture not their own because its more interesting and fun than they are.

My friends and I were very impressed with our first time at ROCKS. After having an issue getting into Waterworks with a real ID, and calling the police, we gave ROCKS a try. Thankfully we did. The bartenders were very friendly, the bathroom facilities are clean and the locks on the doors work, and they have touch tunes. We are 100% going back!
