Anniversary lunch at The Olde English Pub
Have been wanting to try it for a while and watching the snow falling out our window made it seem like a perfect time. It was a little different when headed south and the snow turned to a drizzle and vanished completely from the landscape. Still, there was quite the wind whipping up Broadway so it was good to be somewhere warm.
The bar area was so beautifully decorated for the season (though I had to duck my head to avoid the ornaments) and the small dining area on the first floor with Christmas tree, fireplace and jolly Winston Churchill looking down on us was immediately cozy.
The sausage roll we had to start was so delicious. The sausage very flavorful and the pastry was flaky perfection. I had the pot pie of the day which was chicken and again there was a fantastic flaky crust over the rich, creamy chicken and veggies.
For dessert we had a slice of their carrot cake. It's not made in-house but was still excellent, the cream cheese frosting was thick and rich.
Loved the food, the atmosphere and the history of the place. Will definitely be returning.

I had wanted to go for some time and although the atmosphere and service were great and food was ok, well the sausage roll was the poughmans platter was nothing like a British one, sad a really over priced. Nothing overly British with the food and not a British dessert in sight. Although it was awesome to have a pint of Strongbow, saved the visit! Not sure I’d go again and I wouldn’t recommend it. Sorry!

While I didn't eat here, this is an ideal place to stop for a birthday. The B-Day individual gets a free tea cup of beer, pricing is great in general, and 90% of the staff I've met are fantastic.
The atmosphere is historic, well kept and comfortable. They have great conversation pieces such as a large portrait of Churchill that causes me to tell the people in my party WW2 stories for a while.
Will be back undoubtedly.

We just had brunch at the Olde English Pub. We were there at 11 am when they opened, and it was freezing in there. We asked if they could turn the fireplace on and we were ignored. It was cold throughout our meal. The food was cold too, I got the BLTA, with non toasted bread, swimming in mayonnaise, limp bacon, undercooked egg and fries swimming in grease. My hot toddy was lukewarm. They served water in plastic cups, not sure why. My husband got the English breakfast, the beans were cold and everything else was lukewarm. This place is a great example of why eating at restaurants is an exercise in disappointment sometimes. The server was helpful and friendly though.

Upscale pub grub with an English flair. Very cheerful, friendly and courteous staff in the infamous colonial Quackenbush house.

Loved this place. Great pub food. I had the French Onion Soup - which was very good, and Waldorf Salad, which was fresh and delicious. My friend had their fish and chips, she said it was super fresh - not fishy-tasting. Wine was nice, though they didn't have the one I wanted. We ate outside and the weather was perfect. I'd love to go back at night, see about music and dinner menu. Very enjoyable staff, helpful and attentive, though not overly so.

The building is charming and the service is excellent but we would like a better batter on the Fish and Chips.
We were served thick and dense batter, hard on the outside, but not fully cooked on the inside and the fish slid right out. I prefer a light and crispy batter that sticks to the fish.
The fish was good quality and with a better batter could easily be a 5/5.

For a hearty lunch, we ventured to the Olde English Pub and Pantry, a charming pub nestled within a historic Albany building. The inviting atmosphere, complete with exposed brick walls and warm lighting, created the perfect setting for a leisurely meal. Both the chicken pot pie and shepherd's pie were absolute winners, providing warmth and comfort on a chilly day.

While the food at this British pub was decent, the overall experience was far from satisfying. We opted to dine on the outdoor patio, but were constantly bombarded by buzzing bees that made it difficult to enjoy our meal.
The service was also lacking. Our appetizer never made it to the table before the entree, and when we requested separate bills, we were met with a rude and dismissive response from the manager. He refused to accommodate our request, and his demeanor was entirely unprofessional, coming up to our table without introducing himself and just says "we don't do seperate checks" without even asking me why I wanted to speak to him or what my name was.
It's unfortunate that such a disappointing experience overshadowed the decent food. If you're considering visiting this pub, be prepared for potential inconveniences and be sure to request indoor seating if possible.
