Being that this place just opened there was a wait to get in since the space is on the smaller side. Unfortunately they don’t take reservations, however they were able to accommodate our party of 5. We did overhear the party of 2 after us would have to wait 45 minutes, more or less, so timing is something to consider if you’re planning to come. Once we were seated, there was little to no wait being served water and complementary bread. We had questions about the wine and the waiter was really attentitive.
For appetizers we got the calamari and tuna tartare. Both were good but I’d definitely recommend the classic, calamari fritti. For entrees we got the fettuccine bolognese, porcini ravioli, and penne arrabbiata con salmone. The bolognese was a comforting classic with a big portion. The porcini ravioli was very creamy and flavorful, while the penne arrabbiata con salmone was very filling and as mentioned in the description, on the spicier side. Don’t forget to save room for dessert, the tiramisu was fluffy, airy and most importantly delicious.

Overall this place is good for classic pastas and a casual dinner. The only downside was that the bathroom was dirty, toilet paper on the floor, water all over, etc.

We went for the first time tonight.
.We had 2 appetizers, 2 main courses, 3 drinks and a dessert and 1 espresso.
The apps and entrees were fine. Nothing extraordinary or terrific. Basic, predictable and the eggplant parm was quite small.
The tomato sauce on both dishes was both overly sweet and bland . The tiramisu was excellent and the espresso was good.
Pros: our server was excellent - friendly and very helpful. Dessert was very good.. The space looks cute.
Cons: the room is small and quite loud.
The food doesn’t live up to the hype I’ve seen in some other reviews. Additionally, the owners, who were seated next to us having drinks and eating didn’t bother to say thank you when we left ( there was only one other table of 2 still there ). Nor did they even make the effort to inquire at any point how our meal was.
That is not a good look for a new place (or any place for that matter) where restaurants come and go quickly.
Competition is strong in Astoria. The attitude of the owners seemed rude, unprofessional and apathetic. No one is required to be pleasant, friendly or welcoming. But why not make the smallest attempt and try?
There is better food and hospitality to be found in many other local places.

Came here in September to try out a new local Italian restaurant. While the server was great, (young woman with glasses) service could have been better. She was bartending and serving for the whole restaurant so I do not fault her at all. Food was abysmal, tuna carpaccio had us not feeling good for the rest of the evening. To call this Italian food is offensive. If I wanted to have microwaved pasta I would go to Olive Garden. Plenty of other great Italian restaurants in Astoria to check out, this one deserves no one’s attention no matter how many influencers they pay to hype up their place

Insane quality of food. The chef does an amazing job in highlighting some really awesome flavors- we had the boar ravioli seasonal special, which was insanity. The tuna tar tare is something I wish I could have every day. The service was perfect and super attentive. Super easy to find parking in the area and awesome spot to see in Astoria. 10/10 will be back time and time again. Best tiramasu I've ever had.

Had the chance to visit this little gem of a place a few months ago, and absolutely loved it. The food, staff, drinks, and ambiance were all all amazing. Didn’t get many pics of the food because it was quickly devoured. The Pollo alla martini, the carbonara, and the calamari, were all delicious. Can’t forget the desserts though, the sorbet and tiramisu were both divine as well.

Highly recommend this spot whether you’re looking for a nice birthday dinner spot, dinner with the fam, and even date night; the vibes were giving for any occasion.

I recently dined at Il Nonno and it was an incredible experience! The food was outstanding, with each dish bursting with authentic Italian flavors. The cocktails were expertly crafted and perfectly paired with our meal.

The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, making us feel right at home. The ambiance was warm and inviting, adding to the overall charm of the restaurant.

I highly recommend Il Nonno for anyone seeking a fantastic dining experience. I can’t wait to return!

Il Nonno Italian Restaurant is an absolute gem! We started with the calamari, which was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, paired with a delicious dipping sauce that brought it to the next level. The tuna tartare was incredibly fresh and beautifully balanced—a true treat for the taste buds. The main event was the bucatini carbonara, which was creamy, rich, and perfectly seasoned. The ambiance was warm and cozy, and the staff was attentive and welcoming. Every dish tasted authentically Italian, and you can tell the chefs take pride in their work. Highly recommend Il Nonno for anyone craving a true Italian experience. Five stars!

I recently dined here for my birthday, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience from start to finish.

Appetizer: The meatballs were dry and tasted like they had frozen cheese inside—definitely not fresh or enjoyable.

Entree: The fettuccine bolognese was bland and lacked any real flavor, which was surprising for an Italian dish. The meat lasagna was slightly better but still nothing memorable.

Dessert: My partner had arranged for a slice of pumpkin cheesecake with a candle for my birthday. The hostess initially said it would be no problem, but when we tried to order the slice, she informed us she had sold the last piece to the couple next to us. This was frustrating, especially after being told it would be reserved.

Service: The place was clearly understaffed, with just one bartender and one hostess managing the whole floor. This led to long waits for service and drinks.

Overall, this experience left a lot to be desired. I wouldn’t recommend this place, and I definitely wouldn’t go back.

I really wanted to love this place after seeing this place all over IG, but unfortunately my experience was a bit underwhelming. We started off with wine, which was excellent, and the calamari was a highlight! Perfectly fried, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. My lasagna was another win, with a generous portion and plenty of cheesy goodness.

However, the rest of the meal didn’t quite live up to expectations. My friend ordered the Linguine Nero, and it was a letdown. The pasta was overcooked, although we were told that was because the pasta was fresh? She swapped it for the Porcini Ravioli, which was another disappointment. It had absolutely no filling. I couldn’t even believe it. It was like eating regular pasta with truffle sauce on top. We tried to salvage it by adding salt and extra parm but it still felt pretty bland.

It seemed like one of the owners was there but never came over to check on us, even after we returned the meal. It felt like we were overlooked, which was disappointing considering how small the restaurant is.

While I’m glad to see a new spot in the area, for the price, I expected a lot more—flavor, attention to detail, and better service. I get that they’ve only been open for 6 months, so I’m hoping things improve, but for now I’m not in a rush to come back.
